everybody welcome but we have a special
0:02
guest you might recognize her after her
0:04
previous appearance on this show she’s a
0:07
great journalist doing some really great
0:09
reporting that’s coming out of Syria not
0:11
many reporters are actually even going
0:13
to Syria she’s one of the few and she’s
0:16
given us the truth about what’s been
0:17
happening in Syria she’s an independent
0:20
journalist from Canada please welcome my
0:22
guest Eva Bartlet hi Eva how are you hi
0:24
Jimmy I’m great thank you so much on be
0:26
on so now are we really
0:28
you really did some groundbreaking
0:30
reporting on this can you just tell
0:34
rubra flee what’s the biggest
0:37
misconceptions that people have who if
0:40
they’ve been watching the mainstream
0:42
media what would be their biggest
0:43
misconceptions about what’s happening in
0:45
Syria that there’s something called a
0:48
civil war or something some entity
0:50
called rebels in Syria that are fighting
0:53
against this characterized evil regime
0:57
that is gunning down with people and
1:00
gassing is people and I mean some of the
1:03
latest lies do revolve around chemical
1:08
weapons allegations so the main
1:10
mythology is that this is all about a
1:12
popular uprising against the president
1:14
but it’s not a popular uprising against
1:17
the president because it started it was
1:19
the CIA and lots of other outside actors
1:22
correct that fomented this through the
1:26
Arab Spring then they kind of brought in
1:28
outside actors meaning people supported
1:30
by Saudi Arabia Cotter and and the CIA
1:34
also is that correct as that’s what’s
1:36
really been happening absolutely and I
1:39
mean you have documents from the mid
1:41
2003 of documents even from the eighties
1:43
when prior attempts at regime change or
1:46
enacted but even picking like this
1:48
current attempt at regime change I would
1:51
highly recommend Canadian author names
1:53
given Galan’s who wrote a very thorough
1:55
article called the revolutionary
1:57
distemper in Syria that wasn’t and the
2:01
reason I recommend him is that he links
2:04
to well he gives a lot of historical
2:05
context he links to these documents and
2:09
also to to actual surviving me
2:13
a corporate media reporters who were on
2:15
the ground in early 2011 and who were
2:17
reporting prior to March 2011 which went
2:20
which is what we’re told were the
2:21
revolution that so-called iron-on
2:25
he was citing corporate media in New
2:27
York Times Time magazine saying actually
2:29
there’s not much oil for protests here
2:31
oh no kidding I will check that out
2:34
thanks for the heads up on that I know
2:35
that I played on this show a video of an
2:38
interview between Christiane Amanpour
2:40
from CNN with Assad from 2005 where she
2:46
was warning him that everybody wanted to
2:48
overthrow him already
2:49
and that the regime change was the word
2:52
of the day from the West so what do you
2:56
I don’t even I didn’t really following
2:59
the news back then oh you know twelve
3:00
years ago that closely is certainly not
3:03
as related to Syria but do you know what
3:07
the justification back in like 2005 was
3:10
that the United States and the West was
3:12
giving for regime change in Syria back
3:14
then I like wife like yourself I wasn’t
3:18
following news and I fully admit I back
3:19
then I was utterly apolitical but I mean
3:23
the documents that trace back trace back
3:26
I’m sorry to after September 11th and
3:29
even prior to prior to again referring
3:32
to gallons article he gets into how that
3:35
at Washington or the West did not like
3:37
the socialist fascist government in
3:39
Syria and so they had desire to
3:41
implement a new government which was you
3:43
know acquiesce to their demands on you
3:46
know allowing different international
3:48
companies in there extracting oil
3:50
natural resources ending series
3:52
long-standing support for Palestinians
3:56
and you know support for Hezbollah and
3:58
other allies and having Syria makes
4:01
peace with Israel which is occupying the
4:03
Syrian Golan and which is has ward upon
4:05
including recently many times Syria in
4:09
related to the 2000 we have the famous
4:13
kind of odd speech by General Wesley
4:15
Clark saying Syria was on the hit list
4:18
along with six or seven other nations
4:20
and there’s other documentation again
4:22
referring to Gallants article that asked
4:25
September 11th serious put on hit list
4:27
the so-called axis of evil or whatever
4:30
cartoonish words they were using back
4:33
then certainly and this is something I
4:36
think most husbands and people would
4:39
recognize it has nothing to do with
4:40
freedom democracy or human rights in
4:43
Syria particularly when you consider
4:45
currently and since 2011 the allies of
4:49
the West the ones that have been funding
4:51
and funneling in terrorists into Serie B
4:54
they Saudi Arabia top of Turkey and
4:57
Israel so you so what got you interested
5:02
in covering Syria how did that come
5:04
about because a lot of people have been
5:05
since you’re actually reporting facts
5:08
that counter of the mainstream
5:10
established news media and our
5:11
government people have been impugning
5:14
your character all over the place and so
5:16
just tell everybody here now what what
5:19
got you interested in Syria and how did
5:22
you come about to go there sir I would
5:25
just note first I think that fight oh
5:26
the line use the rhetoric of the
5:29
corporate media in the native
5:30
propagandist including Eman for people
5:32
would be celebrating me and I’d be
5:34
wealthy but because I’m reporting as I
5:36
see it and I don’t have an agenda and
5:38
nobody’s paying me to say what I say I
5:40
am being milla fide that you’re truly
5:42
aware but basically when things were
5:45
kicking off in Syria I had no prior
5:47
knowledge into of Syria I had no
5:50
misconceptions or preconceptions about
5:52
Syria and I was living in in Gaza in
5:54
occupied Palestine at the time doing
5:56
activism there trying to bring awareness
5:58
to the you know truly horrifying plight
6:01
of Palestinians under brutal siege and
6:03
random bombings and and massacres but so
6:07
you know that said when things started
6:09
in 2011 I was also in during the same
6:12
power outages as well things in Gaza I
6:14
wasn’t well informed but at some point
6:16
in 2011 and 2012 I started paying very
6:19
close attention reading it a variety of
6:21
sources consulting friends and analysts
6:24
who are affected and it felt like
6:27
something was really wrong with what we
6:28
were being told was happening in Syria
6:30
in March 2013 and left Gaza finally and
6:34
went back to Canada I started asking
6:36
Syrian Canadians and their replies to
6:39
my questions on what was happening here
6:41
were very interesting because money done
6:43
said you know when things started in
6:46
2011 we were hopeful we wanted change
6:48
one is political change in Syria we
6:51
wanted some of us went back to here and
6:52
supported the demonstrations but very
6:55
quickly on they and people in fear that
6:58
I later encountered in an interviewed
7:00
said what we saw was not political
7:02
change these were brutal protests these
7:04
were thuggish protest not demanding
7:06
actual political reforms so you know
7:09
knowing what I’m hearing from people I
7:11
trusted in Canada and then going in 2014
7:14
April 2014 for the first time to Syria
7:18
hearing a narrative that was in stark
7:21
contrast to what we were being told that
7:23
corporate media really I prefer like a
7:25
self motivating but motivated me to do
7:28
as much as possible to shed some truth
7:30
on really a vacuum of well life and
7:34
manufactured media around Syria so if
7:37
those protests didn’t want political
7:39
change those thuggish protests that we
7:42
now find out many of them were outside
7:45
agitators the al Qaeda Isis people being
7:48
funded by the CIA Cotter and Saudi
7:51
Arabia so now what were the point of
7:55
those thuggish protests if they weren’t
7:57
for political change well I mean some of
8:00
the initial protests did call for
8:02
certain things like payments are the end
8:05
to the emergency law in Syria the
8:07
release of political prisoners which is
8:09
an important note because the so-called
8:12
political prisoners included people who
8:13
were active in the 80s including Muslim
8:16
Brotherhood people and many of these
8:18
so-called political prisoners went on to
8:20
join the so-called rebels and have
8:22
become violent leaders or part of these
8:25
different al-qaeda affiliated or
8:29
you know working with al-qaeda groups
8:31
some of the other demands included the
8:34
lifting of certain laws that pertain to
8:36
serious Anisa sorry Jimmy but this is
8:39
why I do refer back to the G Stephen
8:42
Galan’s article because he gives the
8:43
context of decades prior what was
8:46
happening very attempts of CIA coup
8:48
d’états here at being at war with
8:51
at that yes it was an authoritarian
8:53
government but there are reasons for it
