Lockdown 3.0: 1% is a big FAT F*** You to the NHS, and us!!

I clapped them, I stayed inside for 12 months to save them, I even understood when they saved Boris, all the time getting angrier and angrier that successive Governments had failed to invest in them enough.

I pay my taxes, I pay my national insurance ….. ah there it is, the magic word – insurance! In return for paying my ‘premium’ the Government ‘commits’ to provide me with a level of service to satisfy my requirements.

After 12 months of publicly declaring that they were failing to hold up their side of the deal, they now tell me that there is not enough money – after their pay rises, refurbishing the Houses of Commons, sprucing up Big Ben, “spaffing” billions on non functioning phone applications, track and trace systems and inadequate PPE – to pay the NHS Heroes more than 1%, a mere takeaway sandwich a week for most.

Pathetic to say the least, and according to my admittedly small sample size even those public sector employees not getting anything think the NHS should get more.

Let me take a minute to talk about insurance: you pay a premium and in return are entitled to a level of cover should you need the service. If you are a high risk, your premium goes up. If you claim repeatedly your premium goes up, or you pay a premium to avoid this. If you fail to meet your policies obligations i.e don’t lock your car and it is stolen, you void your entitlement.

Apart that is when we are taking to about the NHS: repeat attendees on a Saturday night for a stomach pump, your usual sir? Still diabetic after being advised to lose weight and not doing so, never mind have a wheelchair and we’ll push you to the ward. Misjudged the distance between the balcony? It happens all the time, you are not the first.

So come on Boris, grow a pair! Turn the NHS into a fit for purpose organisation: treat people like grown ups, but make then act as responsible grown ups, or pay the price (really easy to impose charges just add it to the tax code or reduce fro benefit entitlement). Don’t take away the right for free health cover at the point of delivery, don’t make any more people starve than you already do, but make people aware their is consequence to their actions, and it for them to bear the burden of funding this not the rest of us.

What can I do? Not much really. I have to pay my taxes and my national insurance but one thing I can, and will do, is to make the choice to fund the NHS rather than the hospitality sector. Sorry to all involved but I need to know there will be a pint of blood waiting for me in the future should I need it rather than a pint at the bar this summer so until such time as the NHS are paid appropriately any money I would have spent on a pint in the pub will be donated to the NHS instead.
