Why did UK death rate lift so dramatically in January? Here’s what the ONS chart shows.

It seems that the death rate rose dramatically at around January 11th – the date the government rolled out the vaccine. The two white dots are Bank Holidays – Christmas and New Year. The line took off just as the vaccine launched. The lockdown was running before Christmas which lifted the death rate as previously, but the dramatic spike came when the vaccine arrived. They’ve used strange dates on the chart to take your eye off the precise moment, but by using the Bank Holiday white dots you can find your way to the dates easily enough. It’s spot on the date the vaccine rolled out – January 11th.
