China after Bankman-Fried, More pilots affected mid-flight, France and curious stabbing in Portugal: Links post 1, March 28, 2023
A TAROM Boeing 737-800, registration YR-BGK performing flight RO-7673 from Timisoara (Romania) to Hurghada (Egypt) with 184 passengers on board, was enroute at FL370 about 150nm south of Bucharest in Bulgarian Airspace when the first officer reported the captain had become incapacitated and they needed to turn around and divert to Bucharest. The aircraft landed safely on Bucharest’s runway 26R about 80 minutes after departure. (click here)
The aircraft remained on the ground for about 90 minutes, then departed again.
The airline reported the “medical emergency of one of the members of the command crew” prompted the crew to divert to Bucharest.
According to media reports in Bulgaria the captain (30 years of age) complained about chest pain and increased heart rate, then fell unconscious. The captain is on his way to recovery.
2. BBC: Sam Bankman-Fried accused of Chinese bribe
Sam Bankman-Fried, founder of failed crypto firm FTX, has been accused of bribing at least one Chinese official.
In new charges unveiled in the US, officials accuse the entrepreneur of authorising a bribe of “at least $40m” (£32.5m) to try to gain access to trading accounts frozen by Chinese authorities.
The allegations add to the fraud case filed last year after FTX’s collapse.
Mr Bankman-Fried pleaded not guilty to those claims earlier this year.
He is currently under house arrest at his parents’ home in California while awaiting trial.
The updated indictment says Mr Bankman-Fried authorised the bribe after Chinese authorities froze accounts holding roughly $1bn (£811m) worth of cryptocurrency that belonged to his trading firm, Alameda Research.
(I wonder if the Chinese would consider house arrest at his parents place, sufficient till the trial.)

4. This video from Nantes France seems to show an awful lot of English ANTIFA slogans. Like ACAB for instance. A slur that “all cops are bastards”. Except of course when someone uses the wrong pronoun. Then they call them right away.
