Florida Mosques Guest speaker is Hamas Supporter
On Wednesday, December 15, 2010 the newly constructed Islamic Center of South Florida will host guest speaker, British politician George Galloway, in their Pompano Beach Masjid Multipurpose Hall at 7:00PM. This Islamic Center has been the subject of controversy since May 2004 when the Pompano Beach Zoning Board gave a routine go ahead for its construction. The appearance of Mr. Galloway to this new American-Islamic Center may be indicative of what Reverend Dozier, leader of the opposition against this Pompano Beach Mosque and its Iman, Hasam Sabri, had believed: “The imam and the mosque, both of them, have ties to terrorist groups around the world.”
Back in June 2004, protests by several black ministers and civic leaders, led by the Reverend O’Neal Dozier, pastor of Worldwide Christian Center near the site, were held. But, the construction plans continued and in 2006 the Reverend Dozier and his supporters stood in front of the Pompano Beach Commission stating that the mosque was not welcome in their neighborhood and they needed affordable housing for their community instead. Dozier was backed by dozens of supporters, including two other black ministers, several Jewish supporters, led by Joe Kaufman, founder of “Citizens Against Hate” and the “Republican Jewish Coalition of South Florida.”
Now, six years later, the Islamic Center is opening its doors to George Galloway, who politically and financially supports Hamas, who was recently honored by the leaders of Hamas (Link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSsxsMg8Db8) and who also praised the leaders of Hamas. A quote from one of the protesters: “Those corrupt politicians in Pompano Beach who illegally bulldozed through the approval of this mosque’s construction should get front row seats at this upcoming hate-fest and be interviewed for their comments when the show is over.”

First, the mosque in Pompano Beach supports human rights and freedom of speech. Unfortunately, some in our community do not agree with the American principles of human rights. Mr. Galloway is a human rights activist who promotes the right of people everywhere to the same consideration of their civic rights in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He is pro-Palestine because the Palestinian people’s rights have been violated. It is true that Hamas as an organization has the same view, vis-a-vis, Palestine that he does. Mr. Galloway does not agree in principle with some of the policies of Hamas and would not support an Islamist government in a future Palestinian state any more than he would support a Zionist Jewish state of Israel. I would not support a Christian nation concept for America because I believe in the constitutional statement that America cannot have an official religion. This is a nation of all its people, Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, and any other major or minor schism of a religion, as well as atheists, agnostics, and spiritualists.
Mr. Dozier is out of line to oppose the mosque in Pompano. So is anyone who does not understand the human rights issues involved. We who have backed the civil rights movement of the 70s, the opposition to Hitler’s policies in the Holocaust, and all other such human rights violations, support the efforts of Mr. Galloway to bring the true issue to the American people by his public appearances. The true issue is the rights of the Palestinian people whose homeland were confiscated in 1948 by terrorist Jewish thugs and the people driven out by superior arms supplied by Britain and America. We are against the American support for the apartheid regime in Israel, just as we are against racial discrimination in America, South Africa and all other parts of our world. We would be against any Islamist movement to deny human rights to Jews or any other religious community.
The Palestinian issue is a smoke screen for the “true issue” in the Middle East. The truth is simply that no Arab, whether Palestinian or from any of the Arab countries, wants the existence of any Jewish state in the Middle East, especially one that not only survives, but also prospers. The one redeeming feature of Hamas, is that they are honest enemies and openly express their hatred of Jews and the Jewish State. Mr. Galloway obviously feels the same way.
To the commentator, I pose the following questions: If all the land in the West Bank and Gaza were to be given to the Palestinians, would there be peace? If Jerusalem and the rest of the land claimed as Israel were also given to the Palestinians, would there be peace? If these territories were given to the Palestinians, could a Jew live there in peace? The answer is no to all three questions. To think otherwise is ignoring the facts. Just look at the city of Hebron and see how a few hundred Jews need to have 24/7 military protection because their families lived there and they want to continue living there. Or listen to Palestinian leaders say that all Jews have to leave their land when a Palestinian state is created. Israelis never asked their Arab neighbors to leave Israel, only to live in peace. How is it that Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia don’t have enough land in the Middle East for all of their Palestinian brothers to live in?
Throughout history Jews have been persecuted, murdered and enslaved. The Nazi’s goal to exterminate the Jews was supported by many Muslims and their leaders, and is the most recent history of Anti-Semitism at its worst. The Holocaust proved to Jews around the world that they needed to go back to their homeland, Israel, where they might be able to survive as a people. But, as the land of Israel and the Jewish people prospered, so has the Arab hatred grown against the Jews.
If the Palestinians, not to mention Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran would put down their weapons to live in peace with the Jews in Israel, there would be peace, and all would benefit. If the Jews put down their weapons to live in peace with the Arabs, they would be killed. The Palestinians are pawns in the true issue, not the heart of the issue.
