Punch TV Network Opens Soundstage for Jewish Holiday

Punch TV Network offered a warm welcome to the Jewish community at their studio location on Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles, California for the celebration of Jewish holidays Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The Chai Center, based in Los Angeles and led by Rabbi Shwartzie, observed the holidays from September 4th to September 14th, jam-packing Punch TV Studios with patrons of the center.

The Chai Center is a non-profit organization which hosts dinners, holiday celebrations, classes in Jewish theology, and brilliant lectures for the Los Angeles community. They are humbly open to all ages, races, and backgrounds, and offer activities for a range of intellectual participants.

Rosh Hashanah (directly translated as “head of the year”), also known as the Jewish New Year, takes place on the first two days of Tishrei, the seventh month on the Hebrew calendar. In the Jewish oral tradition, Rosh Hashanah marks the completion of the creation of the world, and is the only Jewish holiday observed for two days by the whole of the Jewish community. Special prayer books, called mahzors, were distributed for the service, allowing for a “spiritual wake-up call”. This year, The Chai Center and the rest of the Jewish community around the world observed Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.  Commonly referred to as the “holiest holiday of the Jewish year,” Yom Kippur is a day of atonement in which Jews reflect on the past year and ask for forgiveness for their sins. It marks the end of the Ten Days of Awe that begin during Rosh Hashanah, and includes a twenty-four hour fast that prohibits all food and drink.
