Plant City Residents Receive Complimentary Laundry Service Through Laundry Project
PLANT CITY, Fla. – (May 14, 2014) – Current of Tampa Bay, Inc. is hosting its Laundry Project in Plant City for the first time. The event will take place Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Oasis Laundromat, located at 1705 James L. Redman Parkway.
According to a study conducted by USA.com, 18.34 percent of Plant City residents live in poverty and 15.11 percent are families. Unfortunately, many of these families have difficulties purchasing basic necessities, such as groceries, and cannot afford to launder their clothes. Current of Tampa Bay’s Laundry Project was created to assist these families by not only covering the expenses incurred at laundry facilities, but also by providing the items necessary to wash their clothes, including detergent, bleach, fabric softener and quarters for the machines.
“We’re excited to bring the Laundry Project to the residents of Plant City,” said President of Current of Tampa Bay, Jason Sowell. “Many people don’t understand how difficult it is for others to afford the luxury of clean clothes and linens. With our services, we are able to restore a sense of confidence and comfort.”
First Baptist Church Midway is sponsoring and fully funding this project. Volunteers will be on hand to assist families where needed. Members of the community can also contribute by donating much needed supplies, including detergent, quarters (rolls of $10), one-gallon Ziploc bags, garbage bags, coloring books, crayons, fabric softener and laundry baskets. More information about this and upcoming events can be found online at www.LaundrybyCurrent.org.
