Daily Haze: Week 12 Waiver Wire Adds

The most devastating fantasy football injuries to date came the week of the trade deadline in most fantasy football leagues.

Figures.

Fantasy stud tight end Rob Gronkowski broke his forearm while protecting for an extra point and is out 4-6 weeks. Solid starter Willis McGahee tore his MCL and is out 6-8 weeks. LeSean McCoy suffered a concussion and is likely to miss at least one game.

There is a decent chance that there are fantasy teams out there with all three of those players. The timing of these injuries could not be worse, as most fantasy seasons are just two weeks away from the start of the playoffs.

And with trading off the table for the rest of the season in most leagues, fantasy owners will need to scour the waiver wire for help. Good luck replacing the numbers from those guys, though.

If you are short at the quarterback position, consider Colin Kaepernick. He’ll likely be a popular add this week after a stellar start against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. He’s in a QB controversy now with Alex Smith, but I think the 49ers will stick with the hot hand.

Lots of work to be done on the wire at running back this week. Ronnie Hillman (McGahee’s replacement) will be the No. 1 add. Lance Ball worth a look, too, in deeper leagues. Bryce Brown is McCoy’s backup and should be added. The Jaguars replaced Rashad Jennings with Jalen Parmele early against the Texans and he played well. Stash Beanie Wells and Cedric Benson if you have the room.

At wide receiver this week it will seem like you are chasing the points — we are, in fact, except for one player: Ryan Broyles. Titus Young is out for disciplinary reasons this Thursday so Broyles will get starter snaps. Danario Alexander, Justin Blackmon and T.Y. Hilton all had big days and should be added.

Trying to replace Gronk is impossible, but you can mitigate the damage. Dallas Clark is a sleeper add this week, he’s been on a hot streak. Brandon Myers is a really good replacement in PPR leagues and is starting to see work at the goal line. Marcedes Lewis, like Blackmon, appears to benefit with Chad Henne at the helm of the Jags’ offense.
