2013 Arnold Palmer Invitational Fantasy Preview
Last week was interesting, to say the least. All the names you’d expect to be on top of the leaderboard were there (sans Stefani) after Day 2, but by the time it was all said and done, Kevin Streelman emerged with his first PGA Tour victory and Boo Weekley came from way back to finish solo 2nd with his -8 final round 63. Good playing, you guys.
Last week was a pretty good field, with a surprise champion, this week is a stacked field and I don’t see a surprise champion sneaking his way to the top this week. Too many big names, with too many good vibes at Bay Hill to have someone jump up and get their first tour win. Last year, Tiger Woods dominated and won his 7th title at Bay Hill, with Graeme McDowell finishing second. Lots of other big names in the field this week besides those two, Phil Mickelson, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose, Bubba Watson, basically anyone outside of Charl and Rory are here this week. Oh and Sneds makes his first appearance since his win at Pebble.
Group A: Tiger Woods Seven time winner at Bay Hill. Definitely THE favorite. Bubba Watson and Sergio Garcia are two other guys to give a look to if you are trying save your Tiger starts for the majors and FedEx cup events at the end of the season.
Group B: Jimmy Furyk playing well the last two weeks and has a good record here. Justin Rose also playing well and has had good results here. I’d say these two are must starts, as for the other 2 players to fill out your B players you can honestly close your eyes and pick 2 guys and they stand a good chance of helping you this week. I went with Lucas Glover who is showing signs of life for the first time in a long time, beardless and slimmer with his new Taylor Made sticks. Brian Harman good starts here the last two years and he has been playing well as of late. I was looking for two guys who I know I wouldn’t use up many starts for here.
Group C: Ian Poulter is a must for your lineups this week. As for your backup, your guess is as good as mine. Lee Westwood , Vijay Singh and Retief Goosen are strong plays in my opinion.
Keepers
Expert | Keeper | Why the Pick? | YTD |
---|---|---|---|
The 19th Hole | Brandt Snedeker | I’m assuming most will pick Tiger, and rightly so. But is it strange that a guy who hasn’t finished outside the top 25 this year, including one win, two 2nd place, and one 3rd place finish is an underdog? | Avg Finish: 28th |
Future of Fantasy | Tiger Woods | I’m not going to get cute here. Go with Tiger as your sure pick. His history at this course is out of this world. | Avg Finish: 41st |
Jake Gaer | Bubba Watson | T4 at Bay Hill last year, played great the first two days at the WGC-Caddilac, seems to be rounding into form again, just in time for the Masters. Hard to not pick Tiger, but I am, and I am going with Bubba and his pink driver. | Avg Finish: 26th |
Sleepers
Expert | Sleeper | Why the Pick? | YTD |
---|---|---|---|
The 19th Hole | Justin Hicks | The pieces are all there and he can dial it in at times, now all he needs to do is maintain it for 4 rounds…..easy, right? | Avg Finish: 47th |
Future of Fantasy | K.J. Choi | Choi is starting to regain form, and Bay Hill has been kind to him since the changes in 2010. Finishing 17, 6, 36 here since 2010. | Avg Finish: 49th |
Jake Gaer | Brian Stuard | 7/7 cuts made this year. Great all-around stats this year. Don’t see anyone outside of the top ten in the world golf rankings winning this week, but I think Stuard could make a run at a top-25 this week. | Avg Finish: 50th |
