WGC Cadillac Championship Fantasy Preview

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

This week doesn’t require a lot of golf knowledge. 49 of the Top 50 golfers in the World are playing this week so you can pretty much grab a dart and throw it at any golfer you choose. Wait a minute, you might get arrested for doing that. Instead, print out a list of the Field this week, then throw the dart at that piece of paper. That might be the best way to narrow down this field that is full of firepower.

For what it’s worth, I am making Matt Kuchar the favorite thanks to his 8th, 5th, and 3rd place finishes the previous three years as well as being in good form currently.

Group A: The big question mark in Group A and in golf right now is Rory McIlroy. After rage quiting last tournament during his 2nd round, nobody really believes in Rory right now. It sounds like Rory put in a lot of practice after withdrawaling last week, so don’t be surprised if he comes back strong this week.

Group B: You could literally pick any four golfers from this group and I wouldn’t question you. Except for John Merrick. That would be weird. Don’t pick him.

Group C: Charl Schwartzel might be the hottest golfer on the planet now that Snedeker is injured so I find it hard to avoid him. Add in the fact that he has two top 5 finishes here at Doral and we got a solid pick. Francisco Molinari might be a sneaky play this week. Let’s take a look at his previous three Cadillac Championship appearances: 13th, 3rd, 14th. You got to like that success rate.

Keepers

Expert Keeper Why the Pick? YTD
The 19th Hole Justin Rose This is a tough one as I don’t like repeats, but he’s been playing solid and should once again be in position come Sunday to push for a victory. Avg Finish: 33rd
Future of Fantasy Matt Kuchar Kooch has three Top 10 finishes at Doral and a scoring average of 68 over his last 12 rounds. Avg Finish: 52nd
Jake Gaer Hunter Mahan Playing very well so far this year, took a week off
after losing to Matt Kuchar in the match play finals. I think this
decision will pay off in a big way for Mahan this week
Avg Finish: 25th

Sleepers

Expert Keeper Why the Pick? YTD
The 19th Hole Mike Hendry There aren’t many options for a sleeper when 49 of 60+ man field are ranked in the Top 50, let alone finding someone who has a chance. Kiwi is that guy as PGATour.com puts it “..the hottest golfer in the world about whom no one is talking”. Avg Finish: 28th
Future of Fantasy Richard Sterne Hasn’t played this tournament since 2009 but he hasn’t finished outside the Top 10 in any of his three tournaments this year. En Fuego. Avg Finish: 45th
Jake Gaer Richard Sterne So hot right now. T2 and a 7-shot win in Europe
already this year
Avg Finish: 72nd

My Top 15 for the 2013 WGC Cadillac Championship

1. Matt Kuchar
2. Tiger Woods
3. Charl Schwartzel
