The Daily Haze: Drink Good Mexican Beer Today

Today is Cinco De Mayo, a fake, commercialized American “holiday” celebrated by people who need an excuse to eat Mexican food and drink margaritas and Mexican beer.

I never need an excuse to do either of those things.

Regardless, if you are going to participate today, at least drink the right Mexican beers. My favorites:

I like Modelo Especial when I’m doing anything outdoors — watching sporting events, at the beach, yardwork, etc. — because of it’s light-ness. It even comes in cans, which is nice for the annual summer trip to the Florida panhandle. I prefer Negra Modelo when I’m sitting down to eat indoors, like at my favorite Mexican place for example.

Deadspin recently ranked Mexican beers, and both versions of Modelo made the cut. Consult the rankings for other favorites from Mexico.
