Fantasy Football Start ’em Sit ’em Week 9

Christian Kirk was quite the dud in Week 8, unfortunately. Kirk only played 60% of the snaps and had 4 catches for 46 yards on just 5 targets (8.6 points). It was an ugly all around game for both teams here. Key players like Travis Etienne left for the Jaguars before returning and Kenny Pickett was knocked out for the Steelers. In a game which had 5 total turnovers it felt like neither team could put together any continuity offensively. Etienne had a long touchdown reception and Calvin Ridley, who I mentioned last week, had a nice game with 6 grabs for 83 yards on 10 targets. In hindsight, the only thing that I regret with this pick is that I chose a game that didn’t have a very high over/ under with just 41.5.

The sit of the week, Josh Jacobs, looked like a great pick aside from one drive. The entire Raiders offense struggled mightily much to the chagrin of “Pornstar” Jimmy. Jacobs finished with 15 carries for 61 yards, a rushing TD, and 2 catches on 4 targets for 27 yards (16.8 points). This one goes down as a miss in the books, but if you watched the game I really felt like it had a chance if not for that one drive late in the second quarter where Jacobs was used on nearly every run and had a ton of success. Jacobs had 41 of his 61 rushing yards on that drive alone and his lone touchdown. So 10 of his 16.8 points came on that single drive, the Lions defense just looked like they simply didn’t wanna tackle him on that drive. We look to bounce back in a big way in Week 9!

Week 9 Start ’em Demario Douglas – Patriots WR

We’re getting a little spicy this Thursday morning with my start of the week, the mighty Demario Douglas. Douglas may not be a household name for many but he is a shifty sixth round rookie from Liberty that has many of the makings to be a good slot receiver in the NFL. Douglas looked really good in this preseason for the Patriots he was just a bit buried on the depth chart to start the year. However, now with Kendrick Bourne out for the year with a torn ACL combined with the ineffectiveness of Juju Smith-Schuster and Devante Parker enter Deamrio Douglas. Douglas led the Patriots in targets, catches and snaps last week and is primed to breakout.

Let’s face it there just simply aren’t many playmakers on this Patriots offense. Rhamondre Stevenson, Ezekiel Elliot, Hunter Henry, Mike Gesicki- do any of these names do it for you? They don’t for me. The Patriots are so desperate for someone to make plays and it just hasn’t happened. Douglas provides much needed speed and explosiveness out of the slot and I believe he should be the focal point of the offense this week. The Commanders also give up the second most points to opposing wide receivers and present the ideal matchup for Douglas as he gets ready to break out. I would start Douglas as a solid bye week fill in and flex play in 12 man PPR leagues this week.

Demario Douglas Week 9 Projection: 7 catches on 11 targets for 77 yards, 2 carries for 13 yards, (16.0 points)

Justin Herbert sit em Week 9

Week 9 Sit ’em Justin Herbert – Chargers QB

Justin Herbert played really well against the Bears last week, but so does everyone else. Going from the Bears to the NY Jet defense is going to be quite the rude awakening for him and the Chargers offense. The Jets defense has terrorized quarterbacks all year, especially elite ones. Week 1 Josh Allen had 3 interceptions and 9.04 points, week 4 Patrick Mahomes had 2 interceptions (should have been 3 if not for the refs) and 13.22 points, and in week 6 Jalen Hurts threw 3 interceptions and had 19.9 points. In fact, the Jets were even down their top 3 corners against the Eagles.

The team defensively has fully embraced Saleh and has successfully implemented his schemes. The team pressures the quarterback with a myriad of different lineman and pass rushers and having linebacks like Quincy Williams flying to the ball. Of course with Sauce Gardner and DJ Reed they have two awesome corners holding it down in the backend; there are truly not many weaknesses to this defense. If the Jets defense has a weakness at all against quarterbacks it’s that they give up chunks of yards on the ground. Herbert will probably scamper for a few decent runs but I expect this to be another ugly lower scoring game. The Jets love to muck it up and capitalize on mistakes the opposing offense makes over the course of the game. Look for Herbert to be pressured often and make some errant passes leading two at least two picks.

Justin Herbert Week 9 Projection: 23/37 for 206 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown, 2 interceptions, 5 rushes for 28 yards rushing, 11.04/13.04 points (depending on your league’s scoring for interceptions)
