Spring Cleaning for Your Yard: What You Need to Do

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

With spring around the corner, many homeowners are starting to think about what areas of their home need to be cleaned. However, spring cleaning shouldn’t just focus on the interior of your home. Instead, you should also focus on the exterior of your home, as this is what gets beat up the most during the winter months due to the harsh weather. From your landscaping, to your greenery, to your siding, here are the things you absolutely must do to adequately spring clean your yard.

Clean up debris.

The winter months do some damage to your home’s exterior, so you want to ensure you clean up any debris that has made its way to your yard. This can be anything from papers or garbage that have made their way to your yard, to dead leaves that have piled up in unnecessary places. Not only should you look for debris in your actual yard but look for it in other places it could have built up, such as your home’s gutters. According to Denver Gutter Guard Company, “Debris, often in the form of leaves, pine needles, tree fruit, branches, shingles, toys and other items, can clog gutters, preventing them from effectively capturing rainwater and causing them to overflow.” This can create damage to your home that leads to expensive fixes.

Get landscape ready.

No matter if you have a lot of landscape or just a little, you should get this ready as soon as you can. The first thing you should do is clean up the area where your landscaping will go. This means getting rid of any leaves or other debris. If you need to make any fixes, such as adding landscape blocks or timbers, now is the time to do that as well. You should also get some fresh mulch or landscape rock added to the area to fill up any bare spots and getting it looking new. Finally, purchase and plant any new flowers or greenery you want to add to your yard to get it looking beautiful for the upcoming warmer months.

Clean your hardscapes.

Whether you have a nice patio or just some walkways and a driveway, you can make your home look new by getting these areas cleaned. Use a pressure washer on concrete or asphalt to make these areas look new and vibrant. If you have patio pavers, there are cleaners made specifically for this type of product that will allow you to get it looking its best. Doing this will ensure you have hardscapes that are looking as pristine as possible and making your house shine.

Pretty the home’s exterior.

Aside from just your yard, your home’s exterior is a piece of the puzzle that needs to be addressed as well. Use the spring to fix anything that may have been damaged on your home’s exterior. You should also use this time to clean it up. If you have siding, do a nice wash on the outside of the home to get rid of any dirt that has built up on the exterior. If you have brick, you should clean this as well. If your home’s exterior is really drab, you should consider replacing it with something new or even painting it a new color. This will give the exterior of your home a facelift that is sure to bring your house to life.

Add your updates.

Sometimes you may want to do a little something extra to your yard to help give you the home you desire or to add some equity into your home. If you have ideas of an outdoor kitchen, a nice patio, a shed, or anything else to make your yard unique to you, then the spring is the time to do it. This will allow you to get these jobs done in time for you to enjoy them during the summer and warmer months.

Treat your yard.

Finally, in order to get your exterior ready for spring, you need to treat your yard. If you have grass, be sure to seed it and care for it properly in order to get it to thicken up and look its best. You should also consider aerating your yard too to help get rid of any dead grass and make it look its best.

The exterior of your home says a lot about you, and you want it to look its best. Once the snow starts to melt and the temperature starts to warm up, be sure to do these things for the ultimate yard spring cleaning.
