Why is The Right Blogosphere In a Tizzy Over Trump?

Donald Trump has floated a trial balloon to test the waters for the Presidency. Can you really take him seriously? I don’t have a quibble with the Trump. Hey, if he were in the White House he’d play more golf than Obama and he’s a lower handicapper. But, the right wing is in a tizzy.

Let’s put it this way, there is about as much chance of Trump being nominated as the Republican standard bearer as I do.  Intrade puts the odds right now at 6.8%.  There is a 50% chance he will announce a bid, and a 3.5% chance of him winning.  If he announces a bid, my guess is he takes the PAC money and tries to use it to advance his agenda.  Trump is no fool-he sees the expansion of crony capitalism in the past few years and this gives him a way to take advantage of it.

Even if he were to run, there are a lot of roadblocks to being the Republican nominee.  Ace of Spades chronicles them here.  Whether you agree with Trump on social issues or not, there is not a chance that the Republican will be pro-choice or pro-gay marriage.  It would tick off the base.  If there is anything we learned from Obama it’s that you have to have your base.

Chalk this hullabaloo up to slow news.  Budget debates get glazed eyes beyond the line that we spend too much money.  All the numbers flying about are boring to most people.  Even financiers get bored with all the big numbers being bandied about in the various bank bailouts.  I can’t imagine what John Doe sitting at home thinks about all the government budget numbers.

Most people I run into just want a fair shake in life. Big government doesn’t give them that, and they know it.  They can’t put their finger on it, but they know the way things have been run the last ten years haven’t been right. That’s why the Tea Party is gaining steam, and power.
