Earnings Growth Charts

I had 17 stocks from the earnings list reporting last week, and since I didn’t have time to graph all of them yet, I did the 5 with accelerating growth first. When reports slow down later this quarter I will post some of the others of they are of interest. On the graphs, in the top panel the red line is quarterly EPS growth rate, the black line in quarterly revenue growth rate. In the middle the red line is quarterly EPS, the black line is price, green is quarterly revenue, and blue is price relative to SPX. None of these reported the end of a fiscal year so I did not include annual EPS. At the bottom the black bars are volume.

CTIB reported an accelerating growth quarter, but that is coming off negative growth, which has been reflected in price. This did report a big jump in revenue this quarter, which is something that should be investigated. If there is no funny business there (an it’s a lot harder to mess with revenue numbers than it is with EPS), then it is a pretty good bet this will go up from here.

GPIC is another that is coming off a period of negative growth. This thing has gone nowhere is 5 years, either in price or earnings, and is highly unlikely to make the next cut even with the good quarter this quarter.

IEC is one that I have a lot of missing data for, but the graph does tell us it is on a long term up trend in earnings. Volume is pretty low in this stock, and there isn’t much interest in it in the financial press, but it looks like it has a lot of potential, and moves really fast when it gets decent volume. It looks like it is in a period of relatively flat growth, and price has come down well off it’s high, but that growth could start up again at any time.

IOSP went through a period of high growth in 2010, and price went with it, drawing the attention of IBD, which is how it came to my attention. It has been pretty flat since then, but this is another that could start growing again at any time. One thing I notice here is that EPS got way ahead of revenue before dropping back, but revenue growth is pretty steady.

Every once in a whuile I see a chart that is a near textbook example of the IBD earnings growth model, and this time it is MELI. This has had positive earnings growth in every quarter but one in the last 5 years, revenue growth has been steady, and both price and price relative are in very strong up trend. This did have a pretty nasty correction last year (which, I believe, rest the base count, giving it a much higher potential to move up), but this has been one of the leading stocks for quite a while.
