Singapore shares ended higher on Wednesday with the Straits Times Index gaining 18.01 points to 3,088.79. Some 2.11 billion shares, valued at S$1.1 billion were traded. Gainers numbered 218 while losers numbered 190.

Australia-based Seek Ltd, the world’s largest global online employment marketplace by revenue, saw a 38 per cent jump in turnover in the six months ending in December 31, 2013.

The Singapore government is proposing to introduce a draft law, which, when passed, means that companies which contribute to transboundary haze pollution here can be prosecuted.

Hong Kong shares inched up, reaching their highest close since Jan 23, as investors awaited a key China manufacturing survey due out on Thursday. The Hang Seng Index ended up 0.3 per cent to 22,664.52. The China Enterprises Index of the top Chinese listings in Hong Kong was flat. China Citic Bank Corp Ltd jumped 5.4 per cent after the company reported net profit growth of 26 per cent in 2013.
