RXi Pharmaceuticals shares pop after unveiling scientific poster at drug conference

Shares of thinly-traded RXi Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:RXII) are popping a day after the cancer-focused biotech presented a poster about its self-delivering RNAi therapeutic platform at a drug conference.

Entitled “The Use of Self-delivering RNAi to Enhance NK Cell Cytotoxicity”, the poster was showcased at the 16^th annual Discovery on Target Conference, which runs from September 25 through the 28^th, in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Marlborough, Massachusetts-based company specializes in immune-oncology based on its RNAi therapeutic platform. The aim of its program is to maximize the power of sd-rxRNA therapeutic compounds by weaponizing certain immune cells to attack cancer.

Earlier this year, the biotech agreed to a research tie-up with Iovance Biotherapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:IOVA) which will look into potential connections between RXi’s sd-rxRNA therapeutic compounds and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes for use in the treatment of cancer.

The hope is that this research collaboration will improve the potency of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and widen their application to other types of cancerous tumors.

In response, RXi shares jumped 35% to $1.71 in Thursday’s afternoon trading session.
