Zynex clinches US patent for blood-volume monitor device

The medical technology company Zynex Inc (OTCQB:ZYXI) announced Monday that it has received a US patent for its blood volume monitor device.

The patent protects the device, which is capable of detecting excessive blood loss during surgery or internal bleeding in recovery.

“The algorithm which computes multiple vital signs into an easy-to-understand index is now protected through this patent,” noted Thomas Sandgaard, the device’s inventor and CEO of Zynex, in a statement. “This breakthrough technology is unique as there are no other non-invasive devices available that can detect blood loss or internal bleeding.”

The device, which has seen considerable interest from the US Army, is still awaiting clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration as well as the distinction of a CE marking from European regulators which are required for its launch in the market.

“We believe lives can be saved with this technology as significant complications are avoided during surgery,” Sandgaard added in a statement.

Founded in 1996 and based in Englewood, Colorado, Zynex sells its own electrotherapy medical devices used for pain management and rehabilitation. The company’s flagship product is its NeuroMove device, which is designed to help the recovery of patients with strokes and spinal cord injuries.

Zynex shares added 1.4% to $2.99 in Monday’s morning session.
