American Manganese achieves even better purity rates at its pilot plant

American Manganese Inc (CVE:AMY) (OTCMKTS:AMYZF) has told investors that it achieved even better purity rates using its ground-breaking recycling technology at the pilot plant.

Earlier this month, the group revealed that a 99.88% NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) cathode material had been produced.

But on Wednesday, it said that a 99.93% purity had been achieved from the second production of recycled NMC cathode material.

Last week, American Manganese said it had taken delivery of cathode and anode materials from disassembled electric vehicle (EV) batteries to be treated by its process, part of a US government project, which was announced in March this year, aimed at advancing the recovery of lithium-ion battery materials from EVs and other products.

“All of us on the American Manganese team are extremely pleased with the recent purity results as it demonstrates our ability to continually improve our recycling potential and provide an environmentally friendly solution to the lithium-ion battery recycling industry,” said Larry Reaugh, president and CEO of American Manganese in a statement.

Shailesh Upreti, American Manganese advisory board member and president of C4V and chairman of iMperium3 New York, a consortium that is building a lithium-ion battery Gigafactory in New York state and other parts of the world, said: “The 99.93% purity achieved by the RecycLiCoTM pilot plant is a great demonstration of high-quality cathode materials expected in the lithium-ion battery manufacturing industry.”

The firm will continue testing the existing stockpile of NMC and NCA (nickel, cobalt, aluminum) cathode scrap to further optimize cathode material purity, it added.
