Here is a bootstrapped baby Northern white pine.  Pinus Strobus is the Latin.  I used to know a lot of Latin words for plants.  I took a Forestry class senior year of college for kicks and my grandfather was in the US Forest Service.  Walking through the woods with him was a treat.  This one is next to our cabin and there it shall stay and grow.  When it gets big enough, we will prune it so it stays really full.  They were used for masts in the British Navy.  The species was entirely cut down in Europe.  In the 1600’s, the King George of England declared all the white pines in New England to be “his” and they were marked and guarded.  White pines remind me of startups.  They grow along quietly, and aren’t that noticable.

Then one day with the right amount of sun, water, and climate, they are the king of the forest and the dominant tree above all others.
