Former Senator and Governor of New Jersey Jon Corzine stole over $1B of client money to cover his own personal trades. He bankrupted MF Global. He treated segregated customer funds like a personal piggy bank.  He put a stain on an entire futures industry. He caused billions in enterprise value to leak out of companies like CME and ICE for no reason.

Now he wants to be a registered SEC investment advisor.

Here is some background on how we got here.

My friend James Koutoulas organized the effort that returned the money from MF to clients. Many of my friends that traded were locked out of their futures accounts and couldn’t trade their positions while the market was moving. It was a scary time for market participants.  James did it pro-bono by the way.  He had a lot of help from people like Sam Tenenbaum (NU Law), Pat Daugherty (Foley and Lardner) and Trace Schmeltz (Barnes and Thornburg).  By the way, after James appeared on CNBC, JP Morgan Chase cancelled his credit card…..

Due to the fact that Corzine had political cover in high places (think Eric Holder) and was the leading financial bundler for a sitting President along with the fact that he had a lot of pals on Wall Street from his Goldman days, he was able to skirt the normal due course of legal proceedings that you and I would have had to face.

I would hope that you would share this.  While Corzine didn’t face the long arm of the law, he should not be allowed to set up shop to potentially defraud customers again.
