PyroGenesis Canada completes onsite testing of 900kW plasma torch for Swedish client

PyroGenesis Canada Inc (CVE:PYR) (OTCMKTS:PYRNF) has completed the Site Acceptance Test of the 900-kiloWatt plasma torch system for its client RISE Energy Technology Center AB in Sweden. 

The testing, which took place at RISE’s facility, followed a successful round of tests at PyroGenesis’s factory in September. Once the torch is installed on the client’s reactor, a series of additional tests will be conducted within two weeks. 

The company expects to receive a milestone payment of $345,000 within that two-week period and a final payment once all testing is finished.

RISE plans to use the plasma torch as a replacement for fossil fuel burners in iron ore pelletization, a process in which iron ore is heated and concentrated into pellets before shipping.

“This torch is being used to address a particular segment of the Swedish government’s commitment to zero carbon emissions; specifically, that within the iron ore pelletization industry,” CEO Peter Pascali said in a statement. “We are proud to be playing a significant, and leadership, role in Sweden’s zero carbon emission policy.”

A typical pellet plant, producing 10 million metric tonnes of pellets annually, emits roughly 1 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide, the company said. All told, the world produces 4 million metric tonnes of pellets and emits a corresponding 40 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide, representing a potential market for torch sales of more than $10 billion.
