Prospects of Federal Legalization in 2020

Pot stock investors want to leave 2019 in the rearview mirror.

We suffered through the worst bear market in the industry’s nascent history. And that was painful for investors.

But we can’t forget all the major milestones achieved.

We saw the first piece of proposed legislation to end prohibition in the U.S. clear the House of Representatives. Two months later, a sweeping criminal justice reform bill cleared a House committee.

In the U.S., we now have 11 states that have legalized adult-use, as well as 33 states that have greenlit medical use. And it appears that a change at the federal level is eventually on the horizon for cannabis.

The question is, how far away is that?

To talk about the prospects of federal legalization, what the cannabis industry got right in 2019 and what to watch for in 2020, I’m joined today by Lezli Engelking, founder of FOCUS, the Foundation of Cannabis Unified Standards.

FOCUS was born in 2014 to address some of the problems in the legal marijuana industry. And most of these stem from quality, consistency and safety issues that need to be managed as the industry expands.

Lezli shares her views on what must be done following last year’s vaping crisis. And why the need for standards – beyond just state regulations – is imperative for the future of cannabis.
