Battling Pneumonia

Since Thanksgiving, I have been battling bacterial pneumonia.  I have been tested four times for Covid, all negative.  Tests in my mouth, and up my nose.

I contracted pneumonia from wearing masks.  It turns out, I was mouth breathing when I had a mask on and there are bacteria that live on your teeth and they wound up going into my lungs.  First time I have ever had it.  I couldn’t get a lot of air when I wore masks.

Masks mandates are pretty stupid.  They aren’t stopping the spread of Covid and neither are lockdowns.  I bought some plastic shields that I will wear if I absolutely have to.  Understandably, I am not wearing a cloth or disposable mask ever again.

The public policy around Covid has been atrocious, and that includes the rollout of the vaccine.  Why aren’t old people first in line?  In my new home state of Nevada, they are giving it to prisoners ahead of old people. Just plain stupid.

I called my old doctor in Chicago and he prescribed some antibiotics with telemedicine.  They didn’t work.  Not his fault.  He is a great doctor.  Tough to do telemedicine with a condition like pneumonia.

I finally went to the doctor around December 12.  He took a chest x-ray and prescribed some antibiotics and prednisone.  As soon as I finished them I felt awful again. I went back, and he said we needed to go “elephant hunting”.  He prescribed Levaquin.  I took it for 10 days and finished the last one a couple of days ago.

I was miserable.  I hate going to the doctor. Night sweats, shivers.  I ran a temperature every night between 99-104.  I was super congested and had trouble breathing.  I had no energy.

I am feeling like myself again but I am not 100%.  At least I can stay awake past 9PM and I don’t need a couple of naps during the day.  I got tired just walking around the house until a couple of days ago.

In a few days, I am going to go get a Covid antibody test.  I think I had it back in Jan/Feb 2020.  Shortly after moving to Las Vegas, my wife and I went to have dinner with another couple outside at their house.  Everyone at the dinner wound up with a case of Covid except me.

My wife had it a couple of days and then was back to normal.  It was like a bad cold.

My son in law and I will go out and tee it up today after the Badger game so I am looking forward to that.  I haven’t played golf since before Thanksgiving.
