Algernon Pharmaceuticals: Meet the team that repurposes drugs to tackle life-threatening illnesses

Algernon is a clinical stage pharmaceutical development company focused on the areas of non–alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), chronic kidney disease (CKD) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

The company identifies drugs that are used to treat one condition but repurposes them for different treatments.

Most recently, Algernon Pharmaceuticals signed a deal with lab services firm Charles River Laboratories for pre-clinical research studies on the psychedelic compound DMT to treat stroke.

The company said it plans to be the first research entity globally to pursue DMT for stroke in humans and is targeting to begin a clinical trial as soon as possible this year.

Algernon joins Greenbank Capital and ProPhase Labs Inc on the event roster.
