Tax Breaks for Corporates and the Georgia Voter Law

There is lots of blowback over the state of Georgia trying to defraud their elections.  The disinformation is pretty startling, but maybe not so startling since when you try to take fraud out of an election, it’s predictable who will whine the loudest.

I see Georgia-based Delta and Coca-Cola CEOs are grousing about it.  Interestingly, there are easy alternatives for people to make another choice when purchasing.  I know there are other airlines that fly, even though I do think Delta does a great job.  I also remember the old Saturday Night Live skit, “No Coke, Pepsi.”  If you don’t know, here it is in its full glory.  For a real-life experience go to the Billy Goat below Michigan Ave in Chicago.

Today, the Georgia legislature pulled all the corporate tax breaks away from Delta. I love this action by the legislature. It remedies a few things. First, there should be no special tax breaks for big corporations that other businesses can’t access. Second, the CEO of Delta ought to be on the hot seat since his big mouth just cost them millions unnecessarily.

CEO’s are in the business of running their companies and building equity for their shareholders.  They aren’t in the business of commenting on voting laws, unless they truly are discriminatory.  For example, a poll tax. Or, a limit on voting because of something no one can control like skin color.  Georgia’s law is nowhere near discriminatory.

I am sort of sick and tired of the wokeness in every business these days. There is so much virtue signaling.  Why not do something else instead?  Build a great product and satisfy your customers.  Let the politicians and talking heads play politics.  Wokeness is not branding and by the way if you decide to do that as a company, you just lost 50% of your market.  I don’t think I saw that note in the marketing classes I took on the segmentation of marketplaces.  Segmenting along political lines is a fools’ errand.

It is time to stand up to all this bullshit and call it what it is.  There is no “middle ground” either. We are in a cold war with socialism whether you like it or not.  Losing is not an option.

I was also happy with the Governor of Georgia’s appearance on CNBC. He called CNBC out and pointed out the misinformation campaign the “journalists” were engaged in.  More of that needs to happen.

By the way, maybe the CEO’s of Coke and Delta want to move out of Georgia.  Please move your companies.  Perhaps a great “corporate tax haven” like the State of New York (satire intended).  I dare them to move their companies to a state with higher corporate taxes since all the states with similar or lower corporate taxes have similar voting laws to Georgia.

The shareholder lawsuit that would hit them would be fun to watch.  They’d be guaranteed to lose since CEO’s are fiduciaries, along with the Boards of Directors.  Moving to a higher tax state would decrease shareholder value and be fiduciarily irresponsible and reckless.

Oh, and by the way, there is no rule against giving potential voters in line a bottle of water.  Any worker from a precinct can do it.  You know who can’t do it?  Campaign workers.  That’s what the Democrats are bitching about.
