Brookside Energy observes extensive oil and gas shows in horizontal section of high-impact Jewell well

Brookside Energy Ltd (ASX:BRK) (FSE:8F3) has observed extensive oil and gas shows in the horizontal section of the high-impact Jewell 13-12-1S-3W SXH1 well being drilled in the SWISH Area of Interest (AOI) in Oklahoma’s world-class Anadarko Basin.

The encouraging observations have been made while mud logging in the horizontal section within the Sycamore formation as drilling operations proceed on schedule, safely and without incident.

These hydrocarbon shows are consistent with Brookside’s expectations and analogous to what has been reported in offsetting wells.

As of 7:30am CDT on May 26, 2021, the wellbore had been drilled to a measured depth of around 10,600 feet.

“Pleased with progress”

Brookside managing director David Prentice said: “We are very pleased with the progress we are making operationally on the Jewell location.

“Executing our pre-drill plan safely and efficiently is obviously an important part of the process of delivering up the results we are looking for from this transformational well.

“It is also pleasing to see extensive oil and gas shows from mud logs in the Sycamore formation as we begin to drill the horizontal portion of the wellbore.

“While not unexpected, given we are drilling in a reservoir that is proven to be productive, it is nevertheless reassuring to see hydrocarbons recovered to surface during the drilling process.”

Shares higher

Shares have been as much as 14% higher intra-day to A$0.025.

The Jewell Well in Carter County, Oklahoma, is operated by Black Mesa Energy, a controlled subsidiary of Brookside, with the well being drilled by Latshaw Drilling Company.

The well is being drilled as a mid-length horizontal well targeting the Sycamore Formation at a depth of approximately 7,800 feet.

It will be drilled to a total measured depth of about 14,700 feet, with around 7,100 feet of lateral section drilled in the Sycamore that will subsequently be cased with production tubing to be perforated and treated to allow production of oil and gas.

First company-operated well

Jewell Well will be the first company-operated well to be drilled and completed in the Jewell DSU of the SWISH AOI.

It is the first well in a potential five-year, 20-plus well development drilling program across the three operated DSUs – Jewell, Flames and Rangers – that the company controls in the SWISH AOI to develop a conservatively estimated 11,606,000 net BOE Prospective Resource (best estimate, unrisked).

This well is targeting one of two primary producing formations in the SWISH AOI, the Sycamore formation that continues to deliver outstanding sustained productivity in nearby offsetting wells.

Future wells in the Jewell DSU will also target the Woodford formation, which just like the Sycamore formation continues to deliver outstanding sustained productivity in nearby offsetting wells.
