District Metals discovers high-grade zinc, silver, and gold at its Tomtebo property in Sweden

District Metals Corp (CVE:DMX) (OTCMKTS:MKVNF) (FRA:DFPP) has reported assay results for the first three holes from the initial drill program at the company’s polymetallic Tomtebo property in Sweden.

Drill results included 8.2 metres (m) of 10.3% zinc, 4.5% lead, 66.2 grams per tonne (g/t) silver, 1.7 g/t gold, and 0.08% copper starting at a depth of 65.3m.

“By any metric the high grades of polymetallic mineralization we have encountered over significant widths in our first three drill holes at Tomtebo have clearly exceeded our expectations,” District Metals CEO Garrett Ainsworth said in a statement.

“We are especially pleased to see significant silver and gold grades as high as 1,430 g/t silver and 7.4 g/t gold from discrete drill core samples returned from the Steffenburgs and Oscarsgruvan zones, which is important as almost 50% of the 2020 revenue from Boliden’s highly productive polymetallic Garpenberg Mine was attributed to silver and gold,” Ainsworth added. “Our high grade polymetallic mineralized drill intercepts remain wide open at depth and along strike, which sets us up to expand mineralization with follow-up drilling.”

The company noted that the first three drill holes at Tomtebo have “successfully” encountered what it called “significant semi-massive to massive polymetallic sulphides.”

District Metals also revealed that the second and third holes in the program intersected volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) mineralization about 175m northeast of hole one, which the company said is a similar style of mineralization to that of the nearby Garpenberg mine.

As well, District Metals said all three drill holes returned low concentrations of deleterious elements and dominantly coarse-grained polymetallic sulphides, which are favourable attributes from a metallurgical standpoint and are consistent with other polymetallic mines in the Bergslagen Mining District.

The Tomtebo property is located in the Bergslagen mining district of south-central Sweden and comprises 5,144 hectares between the historic Falun mine and Boliden’s Garpenberg mine.

District Metals sees a number of geological similarities between Garpenberg and Tomtebo, from host rocks, structure, alteration, and mineralization styles. Historic production at Tomtebo comprised 120,000 tonnes at 4.4% copper intermittently for over 200 years, but the area has seen little to no exploration in the intervening period.
