The Great Pharma Reshoring (Part 2: Timing the Wave)

The core thesis is that the U.S. pharmaceutical reshoring boom is no longer a question of whether it will happen, but when the spending will reach the suppliers that build the new plants.

Roughly $500 billion of announced pharma reshoring commitments will flow through the supply chain in stages. Contract manufacturers and existing-plant expansions are already seeing activity, but the main equipment-order wave is expected in the second half of 2027, with the resulting revenue showing up primarily in 2028 and beyond.

Six major suppliers provide the timing evidence:

• Danaher/Cytiva: Brownfield expansion is already showing up in revenue, while greenfield projects remain roughly 2–3 years away.
• Repligen: Already winning reshoring RFPs and expects some related revenue in 2027.
• Sartorius: Provides the clearest timing signal, saying the majority of reshoring-related equipment orders should arrive in H2 2027, with sales following in 2028+.
• Thermo Fisher: Already benefiting from reshoring through its U.S. contract-manufacturing capacity; its bioproduction opportunity is largely a 2027–28 story.
• Steris: Seeing reshoring-related activity, particularly among big pharma projects on the East Coast and in the Carolinas, although the cycle is still developing.
• Merck KGaA/MilliporeSigma: Mostly sells consumables, so management expects to benefit later, once the new plants are operational.
