EU Updates Maximum Residue Levels for Certain Pesticides in Agricultural Products
On 22 July 2015, the European Union announced Commission Regulation (EU) No. 2015/1200 [1] amending Annexes II and III to Commission Regulation (EU) No. 396/2005 [2] with regard to Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) for amidosulfuron, fenhexamid, kresoxim-methyl, thaicloprid and trifloxystrobin in and on certain products.
Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) for Pesticides in Agricultural Products
The changes and amendments in Commission Regulation (EU) No 2015/1200 are related to MRLs for pesticide residues amidosulfuron, fenhexamid, kresoxim-methyl, thaicloprid and trifloxystrobin in and on certain products imported into the EU. Details of the changes are shown in table 1 in the latest Safeguards bulletin.
Changes to the Regulation
- The changes to MRLs for amidosulfuron, fenhexamid, kresoxim-methyl and trifloxystrobin in and on all products in Commission Regulation (EU) No 2015/1200 of 22 July 2015, shall apply from 11 February 2016.
- The changes to MRLs for thiacloprid in and on all products, except blackberries, kale, lettuce and endive, in Commission Regulation (EU) No 2015/1200 of 22 July 2015, shall apply from 11 February 2016.
Enforcement Deadline
Commission Regulation (EU) No. 2015 /1200 of 22 July 2015 shall enter into force on 12 February 2016.
Effects on the Industry
This update has the potential to affect agricultural producers and food manufacturers. Certain products, imported to any EU Member State(s) must meet the revised pesticide residue MRLs, as outlined in Table 1 of Regulation 396/2005. In addition, compliance with Regulation 2015/1200, which came into force in February 2015, must be ensured.
