Company recalls micro dosing candy after FDA records almost two dozen hospitalizations

Prophet Premium Blends of Santa Ana, CA, is recalling Diamond Shruumz Infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies (Micro- and Mega/Extreme-Dose), because the products contain Muscimol, a chemical found in mushrooms.

The company had been refusing to take action, but after negotiations with the Food and Drug Administration, it finally recalled the products. Twenty-three people have been hospitalized because of adverse reactions to the products.

Muscimol could be a potential cause of symptoms consistent with those observed in people who became ill after eating Diamond Shruumz products. Reported symptoms have included those linked to seizures, agitation, involuntary muscle contractions, loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness, nausea and vomiting, abnormal heart rates, and hyper/hypotension, according to the recall notice posted by the Food and Drug Administration.

Diamond Shruumz Infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies (Micro- and Mega/Extreme-Dose) were distributed nationwide through retail stores and mail orders. All lots and best-by dates and all flavors of Diamond Shruumz Infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies (Micro- and Mega/Extreme-Dose) are included in this recall. Suppose the product is missing a lot of information or best-by dates. In that case, all flavors of Diamond Shruumz Infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies (Micro- and Mega/Extreme-Dose) products are still included in this recall.

According to the FDA, at least 39 people have reported severe reactions to the chocolate bars, gummies, and cones. Twenty-three of them have required hospitalization. A variety of serious reactions have been reported, including respiratory failure.

Upon receiving complaints, the company reviewed the products’ Certificates of Analysis (COAs), which showed higher than-average amounts of muscimol. Prophet Premium Blends initiated this recall and has ceased the production and distribution of the Diamond Shruumz product line as the FDA and Prophet Premium Blends continue investigating the cause of the serious adverse effects.

Retailers and wholesalers should discontinue use, stop distribution, quarantine the product immediately, and contact their sales representatives to initiate the return and refund. After contacting their sales representatives, Prophet Premium Blends will issue return shipping labels, verify the inventory, and issue a refund.

Consumers who have purchased Diamond Shruumz products are urged to stop using the product, destroy the product, and contact Prophet Premium Blends via phone at 209-314-0881 or email at [email protected] with their order number to initiate the refund. Consumers are strongly encouraged to inform Prophet Premium Blends that they destroyed the product to ensure it is no longer accessible.
