Well, Dancing Fools… here we are, another season of
Dancing With The Stars done and how are we feeling about this? I’m thinking this is one of the more lack-luster seasons. Sure the quality of production stepped up, but the dancing has been..
meh. Usuallly a Finale has you out of your seat! This one had us going, “Wow, that ol’ lady can cartwheel!”
So let’s recap the night…
Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas
As far as dancing goes, these two should win because they are the best dancers. Carrie Ann was the judge-mentor for this team last night, and it was ok, I guess. There’s just something so dimwittingly endearing about that Chelsea Kane that as much as I don’t want to like her, I do!
So their first dance was the Samba, and I vote we retire the Samba as a judged dance on this show. It can go back into the closet with the Jive. Nobody does it well! Sure they were given 10′s and a 9 for it, but it still kinda stunk, right?
For their Freestyle number, Mark busted out his best 90′s Club MTV moves and did his patented cheesy- gyro number. Jumping, flipping, running man… a little worried that they put multiple flashing, shiny objects on Chelsea because she could become distracted… and they quit working! Awkward! But again, it was ok and got them two 10s and a 9…
Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovsky
Are we over Kirstie, yet? Yes, she’s old and endearing, but so is your Nana and we don’t have her on the dance floor week after week. She’s ok! But to me, she’s a lot like Bristol Palin last year…
They too did a Samba, with Bruno’s help, FINALLY addressing her T-Rex arms. But to me it was still an awkward mess of a dance with her having a few good moments here and there, but mostly staring at her feet the whole time. So straight 9s for her…
I actually LIKED the Freestyle, because it wasn’t a cheese fest like Chelsea and Hines. It was smartly done, but still awkward. Stopping the dance so Kirstie could run across the room and gain enough momentum for Maks to pick her up was kind of lame. And the cartwheel…. oh the cartwheel…. just…um… no.
Hines Ward and Kym Johnson
Again, I find Hines to be ridiculously overrated in a weak season. Sure he’s cute, and he stands up nicely, but you could seriously drive a truck through his feet! He waddles and it bugs me to death! Especially during that quickstep, which was good, but I’m not sure if it deserved two tens.
Their freestyle was an homage to the Halftime show. Because what every star football player regrets in life is not having the marching band experience? What? Sure, I’ll play along. As ar as dancing goes, I guess it was fine… a lot of running around and tossing Kym in the air, but to me it was a little wild and jerky. But hey, what the hell do I know? It got another two tens.
So in the end, we had Hines and Chelsea tied at the top and Kirstie well behind. Who wins? Hines. But part of me thinks that the producers have crammed Kirstie down our throats so badly that she might get the “senior citizen did a cartwheel” respect vote. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I have no idea at all… what do you think? Who walks out of the Sequined Thunderdome with the Glitter Ball this year?
