How To Spend a Week in Las Vegas - Top 5 Activities

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Las Vegas, Sin City, whatever you call it, I bet you know it. Las Vegas has long been known as a city of debauchery, gambling, alcohol, and guilt free pleasure. But what many don’t know is that there is another side to Las Vegas – a side that makes it a great place to spend the week, even if you aren’t interested in gambling or alcohol, and a great place for a family holiday.

Granted, most people visit Las Vegas with the intention of trying to hit it lucky in one of the casinos. One of the best things about gambling in a land-based casino is that there is no obligations or requirements in order to take your money and walk away – much like no wagering slots and bonuses at online casinos. Just as players scour the internet for the best new casino deals at review sites like www.hideousslots.nz visitors to Las Vegas search for the best casinos, the best slots, and the best odds. But if you’re planning to visit this gorgeous city, here are five of the best things to do that don’t involve the obvious.

1.     Shopping

The shopping opportunities in Las Vegas are some of the best in America. Between Fashion Show Las Vegas, Wynn Plaza, and the Outlets, the shopping centres in Las Vegas can cater to any range of budgets or shoppers – no matter what you’re looking for, you’re guaranteed to find it. It’s worth mentioning here too that Walmart is a great place to visit to stock up on goods you might need for your trip, although this is more of a recommendation for travellers coming from outside of the U.S.

2.     Restaurants

Forget the best in America, the restaurants in Las Vegas are some of the best in the world. Whether you’re looking for a great steakhouse, great Chinese food like P.F. Chang’s, or something a bit more upmarket from the likes of Gordon Ramsay, Las Vegas has got you covered. Food options are so popular in Las Vegas that you will be overcome with options in hotels, in shopping centres – even the street food is fantastic.

3.      Road Trips and Day Trips

Alright, so we’re taking you outside of Las Vegas here, but the great thing about this city is that there are a number of great places to visit nearby. This includes Hoover Dam, which is approximately 40 miles away, and the Grand Canyon, the West Rim of which is located around 130 miles from the Las Vegas Strip – with the drive taking around 2.5 hours. For visitors who don’t have access to a vehicle during their stay, there are bus trips that go to all the major locations. If you fancy venturing slightly further and want a beach trip, the Santa Monica Pier and Beach is around 280 miles from the Las Vegas Strip – a 5-hour drive, but a great overnight stay to break up your trip.

4.     Helicopter Trips

There are a number of helicopter tours you can take in Las Vegas, including a Night Flight where you can see the bright lights of all the fabulous hotels down below and the dancing fountains of the Bellagio, and a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon. Many of the helicopter trips available can also be upgraded with things like champagne, dinner, and skywalks at the Grand Canyon. It is also possible to extend trips to spend even longer in the air. If you’re looking for a fancy way to take in the views, a helicopter trip could be the one for you.

5.     High Roller and the Stratosphere

Speaking of taking in the views, visitors to Las Vegas can also do this through High Roller or the Stratosphere (the STRAT). Opening in 2014 as the world’s tallest Ferris wheel, High Roller is a 550-foot tall, 520-foot diameter observation wheel on the Strip. Meanwhile the STRAT is home to the tallest observation tower in the United States, located where the Strip begins and ends. A mere 2 miles from the Fremont Street Experience, thrill seekers can also take on 3 rides at the top of the STRAT – Big Shot, Insanity, and X-Scream.

And there you have it – 5 great experiences you can have in Las Vegas without having to partake in gambling or alcohol consumption. Whether you just fancy a quiet trip or you have your children with you, there’s plenty in this vibrant city to keep you entertained.
