From Technopalypse to Apocalypse: the Rise of the Beast, Artificial Intelligence, and the Return of Jesus Christ

The spiritual war is increasing like never before and among a multitude of mainstream lies and deceptions, today’s technological explosion is filling a spiritual void, blinding the majority from the truth. Most believe that technology is simply parts, machines, computers, etc. While it is partially true, read how technology is defined as taken from wikipedia, “Technology (from Greek τέχνη, techne, “art, skill, cunning of hand”; and -λογία, -logia^[1]) is the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, crafts, systems, and methods of organization, in order to solve a problem, improve a pre-existing solution to a problem, achieve a goal, handle an applied input/output relation or perform a specific function. (bold emphasis mine).” As with many others, it is my contention that while technology in many forms, such as the medical industry, can absolutely be used for good, including for the purpose of advancing the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ, it is also an exponentially growing masterpiece, of increasingly more sinister proportions, of diversion from God, on the proverbial high speed bullet train with a deeper eschatological agenda, and it goes all the way back to the garden.

 

Adam and Eve creating fig-leaf aprons was the first form of technology in the purpose of hiding or protecting themselves from the shame, guilt and even hatred they harbored towards God from the fall. Paul Washer says, “Man is a fallen, radically depraved, spiritually dead, morally corrupt, sin-loving, God-hating creature. In the very core of his being, he is as opposed to God as the devil himself. He cannot change and has no desire to do so. He loves a lie and will do everything in his power to restrain and suppress any and every truth about God and the more he knows about God, the more he hates Him, because God is righteous and man is evil.” This may sound harsh, but biblically speaking, and confirmed by a long history marred by sin, he is dead accurate on the incompatibility of God and fallen man, and man’s vehement bitterness because of it. Matthew Henry adds, “The excuses men make to cover and lessen their sins, are vain and frivolous; like the aprons of fig-leaves, they make the matter never the better: yet we are all apt to cover our transgressions as Adam. Before they sinned, they would have welcomed God’s gracious visits with humble joy; but now he has become a terror to them. No marvel that they became a terror to themselves, and full of confusion.” It is no different than every religious system that demand works-based performances to disastrously attempt to cover sin and merit salvation, erroneously attempting to present themselves righteous before God, but that is another story. See, along with creating false and often ludicrous theories and ideologies, man has always looked for clever devices to hide himself from the reality of where he stands before a Holy and Righteous God. Not only this, but because man is spiritually dead before coming to Christ, he uses said devices to hide himself from the truth that this world, this physical, is not all there is and there is an eternity that may only be a breath away. But even worse, man has always sought to recover, by his own means apart from God, what he lost in the garden—immortality, perfect knowledge, compatibility with God. This is where today’s unfathomable explosion in technology and gnosis (accumulating knowledge) comes into play, as prophesied would occur toward the end of the age in Daniel 12:4. A time when technology would begin to move so far yet so fast, that should man not integrate or literally bind with it, he could not survive—this is what is commonly termed “the technological singularity.”

 

You know very well yourself that our world is radically changing in regards to advancing in technology…we are all blown away by the pace of the change even a year or two brings. Handheld smart devices have become one of the greatest distractions from reality the modern world has seen. Even for many Christians, as where I also am tempted and often given into the struggle, our smart phones, social media and the other vast amounts of cyberspace networking components take the place of our worship. We were created to “worship God, to glorify him and enjoy him forever” yet idolatry more than ever seems to haunt us in the form of electronic devices, stealing our attention from Him. This is child’s play in the realm of idolatry though, just wait. For the most part, the people are hardly aware of the technological research and even tangible prototypes of what is in store for us in the VERY near future, even though all you see in Hollywood blockbuster films today, not without mentioning the multitude of television series, is “science fictional” genetically modified super-humans and artificially intelligent machines…I mean literally, it is in your face non-stop! There is a spirit behind this overwhelming conditioning of post-human civilization, and I believe that this is the spirit of the Beast being loosed from the bottomless pit (2 Thess 2:7) deceiving nations, ready to rule over mankind “for a short time” before Christ returns, and he is actively creating “his own image.”

 

To many who are aware of the vast projects on paradigm-shifting futuristic technologies, especially in the case of artificial intelligence, the majority would say that we are decades down the road from any of this being tangible. But innovation and change has always come in waves of dreams, epiphanies and earth-shattering discoveries.
