Some Interesting Ebay Coin Lots for Sale
My previous post this morning put me in a browsing, but not a buying, mood. I am going to use some Ebay coin auctions that close soon as a practical exercise on my buying methods.
This auction is for 30 older coins, several are from the mid-1800s or earlier. There are three minor silver coins. I haven’t researched all the coins but, sold singly, you may be able to average a couple bucks per coin. That’s a decent return, but I can see there are already several bids so interest may be too high to get a good price.
When I sell 19th century coins I do some preliminary research on Ebay to see how often the coins are sold and what price they have been fetching. Often it’s pretty rare for any particular date of a type of coin to be available. Under those circumstances I may price a bit high and wait for the person who wants the coin to find it.
This next lot is just a silver bullion play. Watch sets like this and you may get a bargain sometimes. You can sell off the non-silver and smaller silver coins and just keep the two larger coins. The auction describes the coins as Netherlands, but they are actually from the Netherlands Antilles. The 2.5 Gulden coin from the Antilles has over a half ounce of silver in it, unlike the Netherlands 2.5 Gulden of the same date. The whole set is about .91 ASW.
Netherlands Antilles Silver Set
This is my final example, I’ve actually had a very hard time finding anything interesting. This lot of coins contains older Japanese Yen and Sen. I love these lots and find the older Japanese coins a breeze to sell. You just have to have the resources and patience to identify and date the coins. Without any more investigation than a general look at the photo I’d say you should be able to easily average .99c per coin. Depending on condition and dates the older bronze Sen coins can go for a couple/few dollars a piece.
Before you bid on any of these lots do some research and check some closed Ebay auctions. I have been disappointed with some of my purchases in the past. It happens.
Good luck!
