Mirroring Nature

It appears that at this time of year, as the garden and Mother Nature bed down for the winter, I too start to retreat inwards. Oh, I know it’s all about real fires, dumplings and snuggling-on-the-sofa-with-a-good-book at this time of year.

What I mean is that I find myself reflective. Doing things that I did this time last year (but only discovering that when I flip back through my precious Moleskine notebook), thinking the same thoughts, ruminating.

While I have been doing that, we’ve also been on half-term holidays (so not the best time to be reflective perhaps). A trip to London Zoo and the dentist (although not at the same time, that would be odd) have been the order of the day.

As well as rain. Of course. If the children are on a school holiday there is, somewhere, an unwritten rule that says it will rain.

I think, which mirrors what happens in the natural world, that this is the time for the thoughts we traditionally entertain at New Year. So while I run the children to friends’, host play dates, try and tidy up the bomb site that we live in (am totally rubbish at this last one) I’m also reflecting on the year that’s gone and the one to come.
