You Will Never Use Soap The Same Way Again

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Have you ever wondered if your soap is made of real soap?  Surprisingly, many are petroleum based and filled with mostly water. This is worth the watch, the full seven minutes.

Good Video! I make my own soap for the sole reason to get away from all the chemicals from store bought soaps. Why put something on your skin that you wouldn’t want in your body? Since the skin absorbs most of what is put onto it, I realized I was putting chemicals into my body that I had no use for. Smartest thing I ever did. Its easier than ever to get organic oils now in most grocery stores. My skin looks better than ever, no more itching for me from chemicals (sensitive skin). My husband no longer has dry, cracked skin. I can make different soaps based on OUR needs!

I not only make body soap, but I also make shampoo and shaving soap bars. Found those to be great for travelling! I even make liquid soap, laundry soap and dishwasher soap now too. Using essential oils and herbs for scent, the possibilities are endless.

Oh, and I enjoy making them too. That’s my ME time, my time to allow my inner me come out and be creative. And the savings are great too, not just for my household, but at gift giving time too. Nothing like homemade organic soap as gifts!

Good idea. Can you post some websites where you buy your raw materials and how to use them?

A good place to start lking into soap making is soapcalc.net. It has a o the ton of info, plus I think it’s one of the best soap calc’s out there for soap recipes. You will learn it is wise to run EVERY recipe thru a soap calculator to ensure you have the right water/lye ratio the oils. When I first started making soap, I found many recipes out there on the net that when ran thru soap calc were out in left field somewhere so I chose not to use them. Yet one’s that fell within the guidelines of soap calc came out perfect everytime, so that’s good enough for me! No wasted batches, which means no wasted money and time. Plus soap calc is the easiest to use, trust me!

Another good info site is soapqueen.com. She has ALOT of videos. It’s nice to SEE how to do things instaed of just reading about them. Just make sure to run her recipes thru soap calc, or anyone else’s for that matter. She sends her viewers to Brambleberry.com to order supplies. While I’ve never ordered from them, I know some who have and I’ve used their products while at a studio I have membership with. Their products are good, when they deliver them. Delivery seems to be an issue, and those I know have stopped using them.

Before long you’ll be making your own! You will find the most basic ingredients used in soap are coconut, olive and palm and or tallow (beef) oils. Maybe a little bit of caster for beautiful lather. Everything else is extra for different issues being addressed. Honestly, if you look around at your local grocery stores, you can get alot of oils from them, organics too. Even Walmart carries most what you need to make basic soap. I know ours carries organic coconut oil, all kinds of pure olive oils, imported safflower and sunflower oils, just to name a few. Not to mention walmart brand GV shortning is actually beef tallow/palm oil. It’s just not organic. So do some reading then take a walk down the oil section of your store, you’ll be amazed!

Essentialdepot.com is the best place I know to get lye, it is veggie grade – used to make pretzels and the best price out there that I’ve seen. It is still very caustic! They also have several oils and butters that are organic. Fast shipping turnaround, from FL to FL – next day after order placed.

Newdirectionsaromatics.com has good deals too on oils and buttlers. I like their micas for coloring my soaps when I’m not using herbs for color. Also, I like their essential oils and fragrances better than above. Catch them on sale, great bargains, and you don’t seem to need as much as above. Shipping from NY to FL – 1 1/2 wks

Mountainroseherbs.com and bulkherbstore.com are two great places to get organic herbs if you desire to get into that aspect of soap making. Shipping from OR to FL – 2 wks (to be fair, blizzard hit midwest, delayed shipments few days).

I hope this helps some. Let me know if I can be of anymore help. I love to share my soap making knowledge with people. I have many more websites I visit myself, but these listed here are ones I have actually done business with and will do so again.
