DIY Fashion: Make a Vintage Button Tie Tack!

Father’s Day is right around the corner! Surprise your dad with DIY fashion like a vintage button tie tack!

Father’s Day is on June 15th — which is only a few weeks away! If you’re struggling about what to get your dad, try DIYing your gift! Not only will it help you skip the impact of buying new from a big box store, but handmade items are full of love and are totally fun to make. If your dad wears ties on a consistent basis, chances are, he uses tie tacks. Now you can make your own vintage button tie tack with this super simple DIY!

What You Will Need:

1. A vintage button. Mine was an adorable anchor button! If you don’t have any vintage buttons, consider making your own buttons from recycled materials.

2. A tie tack blank. You can find these at your local craft store or on Etsy, but they’ll most likely be labeled as pin blanks.

3. Scissors and/or pliers

4. Hot glue and a hot glue gun, or super glue

How To Do It:

1. If the back of your button is raised (like mine was) you will need to remove the raised portion (the part where you would thread the button). Mine was a bit tricky, so I had to use pliers and scissors. If your button is already flat, you can skip to step 2.

2. Hot glue or super glue your tie tack blank to the back of the vintage button.

Once it is dry, you’re ready to package it in an eco-friendly “tool box” gift box for dad! You could even make your own tie for the perfect paired present!
