Reusing Denim: Upcycled Denim Furniture

During the summer, I pick up 3-5 pairs of jeans weekly on the beach. Most of the jeans are fairly worn but they can still be reused. The problem is how to reuse the denim jeans and keep them out of the landfill. I think one of my next projects is to save those jeans and re-upholster my furniture. I love how they have created memories out of old jeans.

I Just Gotta Eco Ya:

• 4,500 pounds of textiles to landfill every hour of every day in San Francisco.
•  $2.5 million donated in product samples to Goodwill by Levi Strauss.
• 85% of old textiles end up in Landfills.
• 50% of textiles that are discarded could be reused.
• $375 Million in Disposable Fees could be saved if textiles were reused.
• 65 pounds of textiles are thrown away every year by Americans.

Interestings showed off some great denim furniture designs with tutorials. This wing back chair is a classic and I love the pockets. Great place to store your phone, remote, pencils and pens. No getting lost between the cushions.

Reusing both pallets and denims, this pallet-denim sofa looks comfy enough to sleep on.

Love the rollers on this one. Makes it easy to move.

Looks like Pallets, but easy to make. Take the legs and fill them with more old textiles. Tie it up and you have a bolster chair.

Quilters take notice,made with squares of denim, this look can be easily achieved. If you don’t like the look, just make a quilt.

The classic mixed in the the retro style. Got to love it.

This is like old home week. We all have our favorite jeans which we just hate to give up. Those soft old fashioned jeans, those jeans that don’t fit anymore. Take those memories and put them to work in with the slapdash comfort chair.

Maybe you don’t have enough jeans to up cycle a chair or a sofa, but I can guarantee your friends have plenty of denim, they might just part with. If you really are a DIY person or want to make extra money, there is plenty of furniture given away on Craigslist or left in alleys.. (FREE STUFF), you can always re-make and resell on sites such as Etsy. Furniture stores might have consignment programs to resell. What we do know, denim is a perfect way to reuse and make money.
