Weirdest StuffFound on Beach in 2017

The Ocean Conservatory put out infographics that showed some of the weirdest stuff found in the beach clean ups in 2017. In reviewing the items, it occurs to me how similar beach trash is globally. Considering that my hood is only about 3/4 of a mile.. I have found almost all of the weird stuff.

By state: I have found 15 items just in South Mission Beach alone: High Heel Shoes, tire, banana toothbrush, wig, Christmas lights, appliances, many boxes of donuts, couch, many pacifiers, teddy bears (and other stuffed animals) shopping karts, BBQ’s and grills and grill scrubbers, many lipsticks and cassettes .

This year: 3 BBQ, 2 Golf Balls, have found bicycle in the past (now a fence) have found shopping karts (now a garden) Couches, cell phones, chairs and car parts. Usually the furniture is at a fire pit. No mattresses, but have found sleeping bags and pillows.

The Fun Stuff, juice boxes… 3-5 a day, Inflatable Pool, yes, toy dinosaurs, quite a few, lollipop sticks, I have about 30 now, collected over the last two months, dolls and parts, only 2 dolls this year, no toy plane, but have a toy helicopter, 2 Rubber ducks and donuts are a norm. The winner of course are beach toys. I have donated and or given away over 500 beach toys this year. And still have a stash of about 200.

The House Guests, 3 BBQ year to date, 1 stool, 1 pasta strainer, 1 lei (no fake plant) 1 toilet seat cover, although there has been a toilet in one of the parking lots.

Baseballs (currently have 6 and donated quite a few, baseball bats, yet, more swiffle bats, tennis balls about 3 a week,, footballs, have 5 ‘in stock’ and have given and donated many, golf balls, golf club, paddles (have 2) surfboards (3) paddleboards (1) volleyballs (10 this year) basketballs (8 this year) soccer (2) Nerf balls (2 in stock),  Boogie Boards (3).

Fashion and Beauty; I have kept 6 pair of shoes for myself, donated 25 pair this year with another 25 pair in the waiting. Have 50 singles to donate as well. Clothing, just donated 145 miscellaneous items, I have kept 5 items (2 fleece, 2 pants, 1 T, gave to friends 10 assorted items, Gave 10 sunscreens, still have 6 sunscreens left, Underwear (don’t track and keep) Bras (donated 2) 200 assorted socks (no donation) Toothbrush (2 YTD) Sunglasses (7 YTD) Cosmetics (chapstick, lipstick, lotion.. ) over 50 assorted items. Combs (2 YTD) Razor (1) Hairclips (4 YTD) Jewelry (3 assorted YTD) Hat (10 YTD)
