Donating Beach Trash

My turf is one mile of beach. One mile…. tide to towel. In that one mile picking trash an average of 4 days per week, I end up with a-lot of usable and recyclable beach trash. Kitchen utensils, bed linens, towels, clothing, shoes, tents, chairs, toys….

While selling stuff is the ideal goal, there is just too much stuff. While some people will gladly shop at a thrift shop for used items, the thought of buying used items just off the beach, just doesn’t have the same cache. Ergo for me.. too much stuff and too little room.

Much of the wrecked textiles have been bagged as rags for Goodwill. Even giving away to friends and family, sold some items, there comes a time, when one must donate

Since March 2018 have donated 455 Toys, 4 blankets, 7 Towels, 6 assorted electronic devices and 145 articles of clothing, 165 shoes. The very sad thing about all of this.. the thrift stores do not really want these. They are overflowing with clothing and shoes. Most will not take baby cribs and the like. Some are not taking any more bedding and linens. We Americans use and buy and waste too much stuff.

Donations ready to go

Ideally, it would be great to have a ‘Shoe Bin’ or a Clothing Bin in strategic locations on the beach. This will not happen as there are too many retail stores that would be upset and I would not blame them a bit. Maybe that is the next big thing.. open up a ‘Used Beach Trash Store’ in which all the wasted products could be sold or reused.
