Benefits of Disposable Food Service Packaging

People frequently use disposable food containers for any type of event with that being, weddings, birthdays, meetings, and even for everyday life. However, they are often misjudged and looked down upon for using them. Since disposable containers get a bad reputation, many think they get thrown out after one use and are wasteful for the environment.

For the most part, they are not wrong; however, some companies use biodegradable materials in their containers for them to be recycled, also safely discarded, and therefore, keep the environment safe. This is why it’s important to check the material of the container first.

Although there is an excessive amount of plastic being handled in terms of waste, there is still a no cheaper and better commodity to use for food packing in both retail stores as well as restaurants. Getting plastic tableware in retail stores such as Makro, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, and Morrisons comes in handy, especially when trying to save money during lunch breaks. It’s practical and very easy, simply put the food in containers and you’re ready to go. In addition, Makro has offers of different kinds providing the best prices on disposable dishes.

Benefits to Plastic Disposable Containers

Keeps Your Food Safe

Many disposable food packages are intended to keep the heat inside the container so it would be warm and fresh during long trips. People can relate to these benefits since it is common to use plastic disposable containers, especially on long trips.

For example, during the four-hour trip with some colleagues, celebrating a co-worker’s long-awaited promotion, the staff had all this food and snacks to munch on while on the road. Earlier in the morning before taking off, a staff member had prepared for them some hot sandwiches that he put in disposable containers, and to their surprise when eating them halfway through, they were still warm.

Even though it is not as ideal as eating a hot meal straight out of the oven it is still practical since it reduces the amount of food that needs to be discarded due to spoilage and insufficient packaging.

Cost-Effective

Disposable food packings are generally inexpensive and because of their lightweight, they are easily transported as well as their shipping and transportation costs are low. They are quite affordable and you can get them for even cheaper costs by browsing online leaflets at Kimbino on well known supermarket brands.

In case you’re interested in getting disposable food service containers, then you could check these deals from well-known store brands such as Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, and Makro offers which all sell disposable packages at reasonable discounted prices. In addition to that, Makro offers environmentally friendly disposable packages all of which are compostable, recyclable, and biodegradable! You can get a whole case of disposable plates and cups for any work gathering or birthday that come with 50 pieces each. The best part about it is that it only costs around £12,00 and they are very easy and light to carry around with.

Saves Water and Energy

Washing reusable dishes on a regular basis consumes a ton of water and resources. A large-scale dishwasher, such as one used in a restaurant, consumes seven to eight gallons of water per minute. The temperature of this water can exceed 180 degrees Fahrenheit.

In this situation, the plastic food container model should be broadly adopted in order to save valuable water and energy resources. Disposable food cans, on the other hand, do not need to be washed; they are simply discarded.

Flexible and Adaptable

Plastic containers are a very flexible and adaptable piece of material that allows its manufactures to customize their shape to fit almost anything as well as meet the needs of its customers. Plastic is a very easy material to deal with, which increases reliability and effectiveness to work with for anyone involved in the matter.

If today’s packaging was used to pack grocery items or to package food, it can be recycled into any kind of plastic material and reused to pack toys in the future. Since a few companies have embraced compostable packaging, more of these items will be available for use by other sectors.

They Are Sanitary

Disposable foodservice packings are a lot more sanitary when compared to silverware. While silverware can be washed and reused, it does not mean that there won’t be any bacteria left. This is why many people are fond of disposable containers since they discard and recycle them after one use, therefore, lessening the chance of getting any type of disease or poisoning. They work great as an alternative especially for those who got poisoned pretty badly at one point when they were little and developed a fear of getting sick.

Fact or Myth – The Controversy Around Plastic Containers

Since the world is becoming more friendly towards plastic disposable containers, others have expressed their concerns and doubts about how to use them in the most environmentally friendly manner possible. Here are some common myths and facts to help better understand the controversy around plastic containers.

Myth Number One – Glass Is a More Eco-Friendly Alternative Than Plastic

While glass certainly has its own benefits, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a better alternative to plastic. Glass material is heavy and easily breakable so it can be really difficult to transport in mass.

Additionally, not all glass is recyclable and you can’t recycle just any glass, it has to be in the same color. So when you’re trying to recycle brown beer bottles, you would have to recycle them with brown-colored glass as well.

On the other hand, other glass materials such as bakeware, windows, and mirrors, are not recyclable. Such materials shouldn’t be thrown in the trash with the other recyclable glasses because they can completely contaminate the process due to the presence of different substances. This is one of the reasons that many neighborhoods are very strict and well ordered when it comes to recycling so each material should be thrown in the right place.

Myth Number Two – Food That Is Not Packaged Is a Safer Option

Although we want our food to be sold organic and free of any packaging, it is important and necessary for food to be protected especially during transportation. According to Wrap, food waste produced as a result of removing packaging would have a greater carbon footprint than the packaging itself. My friend has a habit of forgetting to package her food or groceries after she’s done using them, so in less than a week food that should’ve lasted her for at least two weeks, was already ruined.

Food must be wrapped safely for it to be edible by the time it hits the end of the supply chain due to the preferences British people have for exotic fruits. The packaging is going to keep your food fresh,  it will help with the color, taste, and consistency of the food, as well as make a meal more compelling.

Myth Number Three – Plastic Packaging Is Not the Best Option

Plastic packaging is very practical especially in the means of transportation. Imagine transporting food and alcohol, it would take less fuel if they were transported in plastic containers rather than steel or glass. Steel containers would need 9% more gasoline, and glass containers would need 37% more fuel, depending on the increased weight of other containers.

Remember that although plastic containers do offer many benefits to restaurants and individuals you should still be using either recyclable or biodegradable containers. Styrofoam is an efficient takeout container but it does not decompose when thrown in a landfill, so try to use these containers responsibly and productively since it offers so many benefits to food services and retails.
