Can anybody refuse to believe that there are two types of people around us (or inside us)? The ones who live to eat and others who eat to live. It’s a fact that we ignore. It is a serious issue because, much of our lifestyle issues are caused by an unhealthy diet.
The sad part is, many of us do not have any health problems. It is our dietary habits that increase the risk of lifestyle diseases. What can we do to help the victims of ‘fast-food syndrome‘? How can we answer this question if we do not understand what these two groups are? (There is also a ‘neutral’ group which we ignore.)
1. Live to eat
Some might not agree with this, but there is no way we can deny that all of us live to eat, one way or another. Why? Can you eat raw vegetables and carrots everyday? No. First of all, we are not rabbits. Secondly, it’s not tasty. We need taste and pleasure. But we also need health and control.
Think of that situation when you enter into a snack bar or a restaurant, and you see people eating a luscious chocolate confection. What do we do? We eat them. But many people do not know the line, they do not know where to stop, they eat the whole thing.
It’s human nature to be lazy. We know the consequences, but we let our pleasure guide us. That’s why we call this group the ones that live to eat. They are victims of the fast-food culture (much similar to a Gothic culture these days).
2. Eat to live
We should take a close look at this group of people. Eating healthy and eating to live might not be the same. Because, some do it for beauty; others eat according to a dietitian. There are many people who eat healthy items like vegetables for the sake of it.
But people like me do not belong to both. I eat everything healthy, as long as it tastes good and looks elegant. Researchers are studying mixed diets (combining high-fat and low-fat diets) or ‘yo-yo diets’ now. They found out that people who go for yo-yo diets live longer.
I think that we need to find out our own unique diet program. Strict diet programs might help you lose weight effectively, but losing weight and healthy living are not the same.
