Bedbug Epidemic Scare

Let us entertain the idea for a moment that in fact bedbugs are multiplying are trying to take over the world one bed at a time. Of course in many areas of the world where cleanliness isn’t the top item on people’s lists and it’s rather humid bedbugs and lice are problems. May people who travel afar complain about the bug infestations in hotels. To my knowledge not much is done about such conditions besides washing the sheets once in a while.

In the olden days people used to wash their sheets everyday in kerosene if they had bedbugs in their rooms! Now there’s a really healthy practice…not really! Now the article posted above is trying to sell you a product through a fear based advertisement. Get you to fear the bugs and claim bedbugs may be the next epidemic and then offer the cure, their cure which you then pay for. Of course they won’t go into detail telling what their cure contains and if it is tested safe on humans, pets and the environment. Even is the FDA did or does come out with safety labels we all know how unreliable they are! The fact is it’s another sales tactic based upon pumped up fears.

Let me tell you a little secret… well actually it is a well known fact and not a secret at all. If you keep your house clean, sheets and bedding washed and do all the housekeeping chores regularly your chances of getting bugs are slim. Now this doesn’t mean you will never get bugs and that you can’t get bugs, it just means that the percentage drops drastically. Yes this also involves keeping your pets clean, having a place for your shoes and coats that does not intervene with the rest of your home and also washing them often.

However, let us say that you do get bedbugs. What can you do that is actually safe for you, your family- including animal companions and the environment? Of course you will have to wash everything material just like if someone had strep in your home. However, you certainly don’t have to use kerosene to do so. Instead get the following essential oils:

• Lavender
• Thyme
• Lemongrass

Mix equal amounts together and place them in your wash. Also sprinkle them together on your mattresses, around your bed, in your carpets and on your sheets, pillows, blankets and even curtains. A great thing to do while traveling is to spray or sprinkle this mixture on your hotel mattress, sheets, pillow and blankets before you get into bed. It will drive any and all bugs out while still being perfectly safe for you.

You may also want to wipe down the doorknobs and other surfaces, including the toilet seat and flush knob with the following essential oil mixture.

• Lavender
• Thyme
• Eucalyptus
This combination kills almost any bacteria that may be lurking in places that were not actually cleaned by folks before you arrived.
So if you get the so called bug epidemic in your home, use the above mixture to keep your bed clean while you clean the rest of your house. At least you will rest well after a long day of scouring the home!
