Q: Tell us about your business; how successful is it and why is it unique?

Our mission is to inspire the world to live a healthy lifestyle. Authentic Health Coaching is dedicated to educating the public about good nutrition practices and the importance of disease prevention.

Authentic Health Coaching is changing peoples’ lives all over the world. Just 7 months after starting our blog, we now have over 25,000 visitors a month to our site who are eager to learn more about our nutrition and healthy eating tips, research and information. The Authentic Health Coaching podcast show, which we started in May, 2011, is now the #1 Alternative Health podcast show on Podomatic with over 30,000 people who visited the show’s website in just the last 30 days.

Q: How is your business involved with the community you serve?

We engage actively with our community all over the world through our blog, active email list of over 1,000 subscriber, our over 9,000 Facebook fans, over 30,000 Twitter followers, over 11,000 friends on Podomatic, and on various other social networks. We also teach regularly in live educational lectures and teleseminars (conference calls) that are free to the public. In addition, 10% of our profits go to charity, with our community voting on which charities to donate to.

Q: What would a $250k grant mean to your business plan and how will you utilize the funds to ensure long-term growth and stability?

The $250,000 grant would help us make a huge difference in the world! Currently, we cannot afford to hire a full-time writer, for example, so we have only 1 writer who we pay on a per project basis. With the grant, we could afford to hire a full-time writer as well as a full-time business manager to handle media inquiries, administrative tasks, and new business opportunities.

Having a full-time writer will allow us to even further increase the quality of our research, blog posts, and educational materials. This will be crucial in continuing our fast-paced growth of traffic to our blog and podcast show and increasing our revenue from ads and sponsorships on our sites.

Furthermore, we will be able to invest in high quality recording equipment and audio editing to make our podcast show recordings top quality. Even though we are already the #1 Alternative Health podcast show on Podomatic, we want to continue to invest in our show and our listeners have been asking us to improve the audio quality even further.

In addition, we will be able to expand our internship program to help educate even more young people about blogging, social media, podcasting, and other new media now available to everyone who has access to the internet. We want our internship program to be world class so that we can not only grow talent for our company, but we can educate younger generations about the importance of entrepreneurship, media and nutrition. With a new writer and business manager on board using the grant money, our CEO will have more time available to provide hands-on 1-on-1 mentoring in the field with our interns. We believe investing in future generations is not just a good idea – it’s the best investment we could possibly make.

Q: What types of challenges can you identify with your plan and how will you overcome them?

Challenges for us are learning opportunities. Major challenges we anticipate include:

Revenue Generation

Currently, our main sources of revenue include affiliate sales through our blog and email list, advertisements on our site from GLAM Media and Google AdSense, and Sponsorships. Ad revenue and affiliate sales are almost entirely dependent on traffic to our website, so failure to increase the traffic to our site would limit our potential revenue growth. This is why we are focusing on increasing traffic to our sites.

We are also looking to expand our revenue sources with our recent entrance into publishing (with 3 books now published on Amazon). With our full-time writer, we will be able to continue to publish high quality educational books and expand our revenue from ebook and physical book sales.
Describe the talent on your team and how they make your business successful.

Tom Corson-Knowles, the founder of Authentic Health Coaching, even though he is only 25 years old brings 12 years of entrepreneurial experience to the table. Tom started his first business with his father at age 13, manufacturing and retailing SAD Lamps from home to help people who are challenged with Seasonal Affective Disorder. Tom is the driving force behind Authentic Health Coaching.

Candace Corson, M.D. brings over 20 years of medical experience as a family physician, and 20 years of nutrition expertise to the table. She is a frequent community lecturer on nutrition and health issues and is the author of Dr. Candace Corson’s Top 5 Nutrition Tips, our best selling eBook on Amazon. In addition to her expertise in nutrition and health issues as well as her writing, Dr. Corson brings her connections with thousands of health and nutrition professionals from all over the world which are invaluable in helping us spread our message and create new joint venture relationships.

George Knowles, M.D. brings over 30 years of medical expertise in the Emergency Room as well as 10 years of nutrition expertise. Dr. Knowles is also an avid writer for our blog and community lecturer. In addition, Dr. Knowles brings his years of experience in financial management and cutting costs. Dr. Knowles makes sure we keep our overhead low so that we have extra cash in savings and for reinvesting in the business responsibly.

Additional relevant information you would like to share In January, 2011 we signed an advertising agreement with GLAM Media because of our rapid growth in traffic to our blog. Since then, we have received sponsored posts from Dole®, Neutrogena®, BreathSlim®, and Propel®.
