The Fluoride War

In the 1930′s, the aluminum industry was facing a serious threat to its existence because its toxic fluoride wastes were polluting the environment and this was resulting in some extremely expensive litigation settlements.

“During the smelting and reduction process, when bauxite ( aluminium oxide ) is dissolved and electrolyzed in molten cryolite, hydrogen fluoride and other volatile fluorides are released into the air, and sodium fluoride remains in the bath.”

Sodium fluoride cannot simply be dumped just anywhere because it contaminates and pollutes the grass and other forage. In 1950, ALCOA was hit with a huge fine for dumping their fluoride into the Columbia River because the fluorides contaminated the grass which resulted in the death of the cattle in that area. The ALCOA had close ties with the Rockefeller family and many other wealthy industrialists, so something had to be done to correct this disaster. Unfortunately, to dispose of fluoride the proper way would have cost ALCOA a fortune, so they came up with an even better solution, to dispose of it into the public water supply.

So how did the fluoride pollution industries get the American government to turn around and support the disposal of toxic fluoride into the public water supplies?
