Over the last few years it has become very popular to remove all of your pubic hair. There has been research that suggests pubic hair removal is increasingly the norm in Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom however, pubic hair removal can be documented as early as Ancient Egypt.
About 50% of female undergraduates in Australia remove most or all of their hair. This isn’t just women alone because now men as well. About two-thirds of both gay and heterosexual Australian men remove pubic hair, mostly to improve perceived attractiveness. The other reasons for hair removal include increased skin sensitivity, perceived cleanliness, experimentation, and to please a partner.
Shaving, waxing, sugaring, creams, laser, threading, electrolysis are all ways to remove your pubic hair. But does going bare down there have any health implications? And really part of pubity and reaching adult hood is all about getting down there, how attractive can it really be, a grown adult looking like a prepubesent child.
Even though there is no real health benefits of keeping your pubic hair, apart from keeping the smell in, there are risks to removing it.
Writing in a sister publication of the British Medical Journal, two french dermatologists and a global health researcher from Emory University have suggested that an upsurge in the spread of the sexually transmitted molluscum cantagiosum virus over the last decade may be attributable to the trend of shaving or waxing the hair around the genitals.
The group studied the cases of 30 adults who sought treatment for lesions in and around their genital area in a clinic in Nice, France. Of the six women and 24 men studied, 93% used hair removal shaving, clipping or waxing the hair in their genital region.
“Hair removal (laser excluded) could be a risk factor for ‘minor’ sexually transmitted infections, such as sexually transmitted molluscum contagiosum and perhaps condylomas” the researchers wrote. In children and the immuno-compromised, among whom the molluscum contagiosum virus is most commonly seen, the virus can be spread by scratching oneself. ( and lets face it no matter how u get rid of it, it itches coming back in)
“Hair removal, especially shaving, could favor its acquisition, propagation and transmission, by micro traumatisms,” the group wrote in a letter to Sexually Transmitted Infections, published by BMJ.
“Pubic hair removal is a body modification for the sake of fashion, expecially in young women and adolescents, but also growing among men,” the group wrote. Motivations for the trend are unclear, but it may have its origins in pornography, or in a bid for increased sexual sensation, they noted. The researchers suggested that “an unconscious desire to simulate an infantile look” or “a desire to distance ourselves from our animal nature” prompts some to seek out the total or near-total removal of pubic hair, widely known as a Brazilian.
Ok whatever a person chooses go bare or keep your hair, just be aware of the health implications that come with the removal.

30 people in one study is not sufficient to establish a cause and effect relationship. Going to a business for waxing the instruments used, the wax dipped into all that could be contaminated.
