Are You a Wounded Healer?

The time of the Wounded Healer has arrived! It actually has been around a very long time, but it wasn’t really thought or spoken of until now. With the re-discovery of the 13^th Zodiac sign, Ophiuchus, we have become reacquainted with this timely archetype, Asclepius, the incarnation of the archetype of the wounded healer.

I realized that I was connected with Asclepius and began to research him and his work while I was learning to do my own healing work. And as Asclepius took snake venom (poison) to heal, I knew that my job in healing was going to require the same dedication to the transmutation of toxins in myself (in all their various forms).

But also more recently I realized that this dedication required one more level of development. That being a “transcendence” of all ideas and constraints of the physical body. Focusing only on the “Spiritual” or “Spirit” as being in any way real. This denial of sickness and disease put me at odds with most people who had become so entrenched in the physical symptoms. While clinging to concepts of what they had been told by their “doctors” and those of the medical “authorities”, they would blink their eyes at me when I told them that if they wanted to believe in these people or ideas, they certainly were free to do so, but the truth was that all of these limitations were stopping them from true healing.

I was revisiting a book by Mary Baker Eddy, called “Science and Healing” that was written in the late 1800′s. Reading her work reminds me how aligned I am

with what Christian Science was teaching back then! And here is what

she said back then that strikes this issue to the core:

“A Limitless Mind cannot proceed from physical limitations. Finiteness cannot present the idea or vastness of infinity. A mind originating from a finite or material source must be limited (read limiting!) and finite.”

“The conceptions of mortal, erring thought must give way to the ideal of all that is perfect and eternal. Through many generations human beliefs will be attaining diviner conceptions, and the immortal and perfect model of God’s creation will finally be seen as the only true conception of being.”

The effect of mortal mind on health and happiness is seen in this: If one turns away from the body with such absorbed interest as to forget it, the body experiences no pain. Detach sense from the body, or matter, which is only a form of human belief, and you may learn the meaning of God, or good, and the nature of the immutable and immortal. Breaking away from the mutations of time and sense (read space), you will neither lose the solid objects and ends of life nor your own identity. Fixing your gaze on the realities supernal, you will rise to the spiritual consciousness of being, even as the bird which has burst from the egg and preens its wings for a skyward flight!”

When I read these words 7 years ago, my heart lept for joy as I knew she was right

and I thanked my lucky stars that had aligned me to find this at the perfect time

for directing me and my work!

The Wounded Healer “transcends” all physical limitations, like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, to live eternally! (Got chills!) Does being a wounded healer mean that you have healed all physical ailments?  Maybe, but not neccessarily.  What is important though is that you are able to “transcend” them.  They are of little or no consequence as you no longer identify who you are with your physical body.  No toxins can harm you and no poisons can kill you!  I feel no guilt about not joining a health club now!  What a relief!

I also remember my wise Grandfather saying to me “Argue for your limitations and

they are yours!”.
