Free Respirators for Ore. Fire Victims, 2010 BP Gulf Oil Victims Left To Die
Editorial
Due to very unhealthy air from smoke concentrations in Douglas and Jackson Counties measured at a level considered Very Unhealthy, free respirators have been offered to residents, unlike the government’s denial of such aid to Gulf Coasters when they were exposed to BP’s oil and the government’s carpet-bombed lethal Corexit.
Unlike during the initial peak of the 2010 BP Gulf oil catastrophe, when air was poisoned from BP wrecking the Macondo Prospect well and Corexit was carpet-bombed throughout the region, according to KDRV, Oregon residents are being offered a breathing aid and advice about how to avoid ill-health.
Oregonians reap health care during fire disaster
Thanks to the Red Cross and AllCare, respirators are being provided free of charge to residents suffering in today’s worst hit areas of wildfires: Jackson County and Douglas County.
KDRV reports the respirators can be obtained from the Red Cross at 60 Hawthorne St, Medford on Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The respirators are also available at Jackson County Public Health at 1005 E. Main St, Medford from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Douglas County Health and Social Services have said smoke concentrations in the Douglas Complex Fire area have been measured at a level considered Very Unhealthy. Free respirator masks are available there, too at Glenway Store, Molly Street, Glendale and at Glendale City Hall, 124 3rd Street, Glendale.
The DEQ and local county health departments are urging Oregonians in the present wildfire disaster areas to take the following precautions to avoid breathing problems or other symptoms from smoke:
- Be aware of smoke concentrations in your area and avoid the places with highest concentrations.
- Check the current local air quality conditions on DEQ’s website at www.deq.state.or.us/aqi/ or call 503-229-6397.
- Avoid outdoor activities when air quality is unhealthy and hazardous.
- Avoid smoke by leaving the area or protecting yourself by staying indoors, closing as many windows and doors as possible without letting the house overheat.
- Use a filter in home heating or cooling systems that removes very fine particulate matter.
- Avoid strenuous outdoor activity in smoky conditions.
- Be aware that young children and persons with heart or lung problems are especially vulnerable.
- Persons suffering from asthma or other respiratory problems should follow their breathing management plans or contact their health care providers.
Gulf Coasters denied respirators and left to die
It is understood that data are needed due to the unprecedented type of exposure in the Gulf region being unprecedented and that not to do the research would be unconscionable. First priority, however, should have been to respond vigorously to the health emergency. In fact, there is no need to choose between the two – both should have been done.
To only test is not only unethical. Researching injured and dying Gulf of Mexico region people without offering aid, in other words, withholding treatment, is worse than unethical and exploitive. It is a crime against humanity. It is genocide.
Gulf oil clean-up workers were prohibited from wearing respirators. If caught wearing their own, they were fired.
Instead of providing health care for Gulf Coast residents suffering from respiratory and other illnesses related to the carcinogenic oil and toxic Corexit, President Obama ostensibly swam in the Gulf for a photo op. The event had been planned for him and the media to send a message that the Gulf was clean and safe.
It was later learned that the swim was as much of a ruse as the notion that the well was capped and the Gulf is clean and safe. Obama had his swim in a protected bay, allowing only his own White House photographer to take the shot.
In covering the BP/Transocean Deepwater Horizon Macondo well blow-out, media continues reporting that eleven people died. The hidden reality is that many more people have died and many are dying from subsequent oil, Corexit and denial of related health care.

One difference between Or. fires and Gulf oil/Corexit crime: One is visible, the other covered-up.
Plus Deborah, one was man-made (corporation), therefore corporate influence over public health (i.e. BP, Texas Brine, TEPCO in Fukushima, Monsanto) and the other is a natural disaster (lightening).
