Type-1 diabetes linked to certain foods and viruses
(NaturalHealth365) Type-1 diabetes can occur at any age, but the most common start is between infancy and late 30’s. According to the Juvenile Research Diabetes Foundation, as many as three million Americans have type-1 diabetes (T1D) with 80 new people being diagnosed daily.
Is this diet related? T1D rose 23% between 2001 and 2009 in people under 20. So what causes T1D and what can be done to lower the odds of you or your child being diagnosed?
Watch out for gluten in the diet
Research from the Mayo Clinic indicates that intestinal microbes play a large part in the development of T1D and that gluten in the diet may modify the intestinal microbiome increasing the incidence of T1D.
The research was conducted on mice who were diabetic or raised to develop T1D and it was discovered that a gluten-free diet protected the mice against the disorder while adding gluten back in the diet reversed the protective impact that the gluten free diet provided. Researchers also found a measureable impact of gluten on bacterial flora that could be why gluten affects the risk for T1D.
Furthermore, human data shows us that Celiac disease is one of the most frequent autoimmune disorders occurring in those with T1D. Researchers state that both T1D and Celiac disease share the same genetic background and an abnormal small intestinal immune response. They recommend that celiac screenings should occur for all with T1D so they can start a gluten-free diet if the result is positive.
How do dairy products create type-1 diabetes?
Studies demonstrate a link between cow’s milk consumption and T1D. In addition, some studies suggest that a component in pasteurized and homogenized cow’s milk is triggering an autoimmune response in children who are genetically predisposed to developing T1D.
Some researchers believe that the component causing the issue is bovine serum albumin while others believe it is bovine insulin. In fact, many pediatricians are suggesting avoiding cow’s milk in children who have a history of T1D in their family.
Can viruses trigger type-1 diabetes?
The short answer is yes – in those who are genetically susceptible. The viruses that are of particular interest to researchers are those that attack thee intestinal track. These are Coxsackie, mumps and congenital rubella.
These viruses are enteric viruses that attack the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Using homeopathics that can help with these viruses is suggested as is the use of antivirals such as colloidal silver, coconut oil and vitamin C.
Is there a connection between vitamin D deficiency and T1D?
A number of studies have shown that young people with T1D have lower circulating levels of D3. In turns out that areas with less sunlight have increased incidence of T1D.
Harvard School of Public Health states the risk of type-1 diabetes appears to be increased even at vitamin D levels that are commonly regarded as normal – suggesting that a substantial proportion of the population could benefit from increased vitamin D intake. The metabolically active form of D is 1,25(OH)2D3, so it is important to get tested and (if necessary) supplement with vitamin D3.
Are there any genetic influences on T1D?
Actually, yes, researchers have also found some prenatal factors that can increase the possibility of T1D.
• If the father has T1D, the child is more likely to be affected than if the mother has diabetes.
• Higher birth weight
• Advanced age of the mother
• Having other autoimmune disorders such as Grave’s disease, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Addison’s disease, multiple sclerosi or pernicious anemia

Read the book,”Wheat Belly”, by Dr. William Davis. I was an insulin dependent diabetic, that has removed all wheat from my diet (Bread, pasta, muffins etc.) my blood sugar levels are now normal after 3 weeks, my after meal glucose is in the 120′s, and my weight is down 20 lbs.
This is REAL folks. The wheat we are consuming has been genetically modified and has NEVER been tested by the FDA, to see the effects! This modified wheat is no longer the “amber waves of grain” our grand parents consumed. Ever see many very obese people in the 40′s and 50′s? Did they not eat bread and pasta? This modified wheat contributes not only to diabetes, but hypertension, joint and cartilage destruction, and most importantly celiac disease and visceral fat !!!!
The USDA pushes “Whole Grains”, it does not matter ALL wheat, white, whole wheat has been modified! The are intentionally promoting a problem (diabetes)they are publicly trying to fix!
THIS IS REAL FOLKS !!
